We had decided that I wasn't pregnant after having a negative test. I had one more test in the box and decided several days later just to do it for no apparent reason. It went positive very quickly. My DH was still in bed so I went in and told him imediatly. He rolled over and went back to sleep. I was gutted but he was very excited once he woke up.

SkaterGrrrrl · 10/03/2010 11:01

I came home from work, did a test in the bathroom, went into the lounge and said "I have a new nickname for you" and he said "What?" and I said "Daddy!". Then he said "Oh my god!" for about 10 minutes and hugged me as we'd been trying for nearly a year.

CherryPie3 · 10/03/2010 11:01

I took a picture on my camera phone and sent it to him at work with a musical attatchment and a note saying 'is this positive enough for you'

I'd done 2 first response a few days earlier and although I could see they were both positive (very very faint), he wasn't convinced. I bought a clearblue digi which came up 'pregnant 1-2' and sent it to him

claricebeansmum · 10/03/2010 11:08

I did a test when I got home from work - knew I was pregnant and too excited to wait until the morning and do it properly . Just said "I'm pregnant" and we had a huge hug.

Had been waiting for nature to take it's course for all of one month...

Adair · 10/03/2010 11:11

Dh was up a mountain in Peru.
So I sent him emails saying 'ring me as SOON AS YOU CAN - don;t worry!'. Had to wait four days before he was in range...

Spirael · 10/03/2010 11:17

My DH knew before I did! He frog marched me to the bathroom one morning and insisted I did a test. When it came up positive, I was busy staring at it numbly while he practiced his endearingly smug 'I told you so' grin.

Nymphadora · 10/03/2010 11:29

I apologised to dh that I had made him go for his sperm count that day as we now didn't need it

GP laughed when we went in for the results but instead said I was pg

CherryPie3 · 10/03/2010 11:33

Spirael That sounds like my first pregnancy!!! I was in denial about the whole thing and dh went and bought a test a lo and behold - 2 lines. . 2 lines that is now a healthy 5 year old

shipsladyg · 10/03/2010 11:45

I took DH his morning cup of tea in bed. Went off to the loo, did the test, it came up positive, went back to the bedroom and gave it to him without saying anything or any emotion. "What's this?" was the response. I told him. He said "Oh". We'd been trying nearly three years and a few months earlier had had a MMC so pretty much we spent the next half an hour before he left for work in a contemplative wordlessness as we both processed the information.

Not particularly the joyous effervescence either of us thought we would have. I think we cautiously saved that up for after our 12week scan.

ttcbabyno3 · 10/03/2010 11:51

My first i was a work and rather young so thought i was going to pass out and told hubby over the phone in complete utter shock!!

Dc2 we were going on holiday and was on our forst month of ttc and i wanted to know before we went so i knew if i could drink on the plane (nervoius flyer) but i couldn't push a wee out so on the plane i did the test and we found out thounsands of feet in the air.

TTc dc3 and looking for some really good ideas if/when we have another positive.

Great stories ladies keep them comming

With DC2 - DH came back from shops with a load of beer and wine just after I'd done the test. I said 'I think you're going to be drinking those by yourself...' - it took him a few seconds to work it out.

passionberry · 10/03/2010 11:59

Finding out on the plane - cool!

I just said "I think I'm pregnant" and showed him the test - we were all freaked out and tearful for some reason (had been trying for ages though!)

If I ever do this again I will try and make it more of a celebration!

parkj83 · 10/03/2010 12:10

I did mine first thing, and we'd been ttc for a couple of months, had a couple of false alarms. I deliberately waited till at least 5 weeks overdue, as my periods are irregular.

When it showed BFP, I put a sad face on, and showed it to DH. He didn't have his contacts in, so could barely register my face let alone the test. He looked confused, as we were certain it'd be +ve, looked at the test, looked at me, looked at the test again, and eventually it twigged!

He bounced round the house yelling "Yippee, it still works" for about 15 mins, before he calmed down enough to hug me!

oopsandbabycoconut · 10/03/2010 12:11

We had been trying for 5 years and had fertility treatment it was days before my official testing day and I had astash of cheapy tests I did one (4.30am)and saw a second line so I poke DH and said can you see a second line, he mumbled yes ,so what and went back to sleep. I sat and stared at it and 10mins later he jumped up in bed and asked it he was dreaming.

This time I had a feeling and so bought a test and popped in to see DH at work for lunch taking a test with me - I did in his work loo and walked into the kitchen and handed him the test. He was shocked into amazing silence as we had been told that after DD there was little chance of number 2.

MathsMadMummy · 10/03/2010 12:14

First time, I left it an extra week before the test - couldn't believe I'd be PG as we'd only started trying a few weeks earlier! We bought the test together, I went to the bathroom - wasn't supposed to look before showing DH (then DP) but couldn't help it... was convinced the cross might fade again and it'd be a BFN!!!

Second time I wanted to surprise DH, I figured out I was PG (again had only just started trying) but I waited a few extra days til our anniversary. When he got home I said "got you a present" and gave him the (clean!!!) test.

blonde36er · 10/03/2010 12:17

Did a test after coming home from work one Monday, felt a bit ropey and thought it odd that I still felt hungover on the Monday. Expected a -ve.

Put it on the mantlepiece for the 3 minutes, DH was in the living room on the computer...I looked at it and said 'bugger...it's positive' and he sat there like a cheshire cat!

I was in shock as it appeared we'd hit the jackpot first time and I was expecting it to take 6-12 months!

FoxyRevenger · 10/03/2010 12:30

I had to get my husband to pull in to a layby because I couldn't stop retching out of the window...in between gagging I managed to tell him...bit of a surprise as we were only three days back after our honeymoon

StepSideways · 10/03/2010 12:44

I'll never forget it, DW was often several weeks late, but this time she had peaked over 3w late which was pushing it even for her, I went and bought a digital test even though i pessimistically was convinced it would be negative and she would just be late again.
She was so nervous she wouldn?t let me in the bathroom with her while she 'wetted' the test machine, then she came back though with the still flashing unit and sat next to me staring at it.

We sat there for what seemed like an eternity watching the screen flash while it worked away, I was so sure it would come back negative as I was sure I wasn't lucky enough, then suddenly it just said 'pregnant' on the screen!

My DW just fell over fell backwards onto the bed exclaiming a certain expletive in surprise, needless to say no she?s a very happy mummy :-)

StepSideways · 10/03/2010 12:50

Sorry stupid fingers, I mean.. needless to say now she's a very happy mummy :-)

CUNextTuesday · 10/03/2010 12:53

took a photo of the test on moby and sent it to him (was away at a conference). Was a huge pause before he texted back - turns out he'd gone in the bath and left his phone in the bedroom. Nerve-wracking times...

Stickhasgrownup · 10/03/2010 12:57

I wrapped up my positive test and popped it under the christmas tree... (luckily I only found out on the 23rd, so didn't have to keep my secret for long)

I had been away fora couple of days and day I got back I told DH I was a day late. But we have had so many false alarms that we agreed I would do a test in the next few days. Woke up the next day at 6am and remembered I had a test in the house so went to do it while DH was still in bed.

Turned it over after 3 mins and it said 2-3 weeks pregnant!!! I was making so much noise (I even told the cat who was in the bathroom too) it woke him up so he came running into bathroom and I just said LOOK and showed the test. We hugged, I cried with happiness and was hyperventilating. We had been trying for two years and it felt like a miracle.

tiredfeet · 10/03/2010 14:02

we'd been trying for 16 months and had just started fertility tests, DH had been invited on a boys trip to New York but was worried about going because it was going to be when I was next ovulating (he asked me when I was going to ov next then told me why so he trapped me, it wasn't me banning him!). I wanted him to still go but he wasn't happy (we were both conscious of the costs of fertility treatment). Joking around really, I said well my period's due in a few days, so if I'm pregnant then you can go (he had a few days to make up his mind).

The day my period was due and it didn't show up, so I bought a test. The next day it was our first wedding anniversary (we started ttc before wedding to get a headstart!). DH had crept out of the house to buy me flowers, so I got up and took a test and it was positive. DH came back as I was staring at it in disbelief and I just ran to him and between sobs managed to say 'it looks like you can go to New York!'. DH totally didn't believe the first test so we had to go to the shops and buy loads more tests, only after I'd done about 5 did he ring his friends and say he could come to New York. Was the most amazing wedding anniversary present ever

bilblio · 10/03/2010 14:46

I told him "I suspect you're very virile". We'd only been trying for a month. I then left him pacing the house for the weekend as it was my Dad's birthday and I was going up to theirs for the night. I did a test while I was at my sister-in-laws the next day and phoned him, but he waited till I got home before he phoned and very excitedly told his family.
