I've been feeling the cold all day - should I be worried?

I'm 5 weeks tomorrow and I've been FREEZING all day. I know the weather has been particularly cold today, and the heating at my workplace is practically non-existent, but now I'm at home in my wooliest cardi with the heating turned right up and I'm still having chills. I thought my temperature was supposed to be elevated in early pregnancy - is this a really bad sign?

Not that I know of.

How are you feeling otherwise, sick? I used to get the chills on and off when pregnant.

Such early days, I know that's a bore, but your body is changing.

Get into bed with an extra blanket and get some sleep.

I'm another one who felt the cold more during early pregnancy, on and off until the end of the first trimester I think. God knows why - like you I always thought you were supposed to feel hotter in pregnancy, but I didn't.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 09/03/2010 06:42

Amelia, I mean this very kindly (I remember your thread about not being able to believe the pregnancy) - you're stressing for no reason.

The temperature thing isn't anything to go on. I never noticed a temperature difference (well, until I was 37 weeks and the size of a house). Try and relax!

Pidgin · 09/03/2010 06:59

Amelia I'm 5+5 and I've been feeling the cold loads - always wanting a hot water bottle! However, I know that my temp is in fact raised, because I'm still taking it every morning. So fear not, you can still feel the cold and have a raised temperature. (Feel my science teacher would have been proud of this experiment!)

Feeling wierdly cold was my first pg sympton when I had dc2. I'd had dc1 not long before and recognised that frozen feeling. Wrap up warm and congratulations!

FutureMum · 09/03/2010 09:57

Hi AmeliaEarhart (love your alias, btw!)

I too have been feeling cold, my body gets really warm and the air around it seems like really cold in comparison. Not feel like I really got any temperature or anything, so I am just wrapping up warm at home in a fleece blanket and counting the weeks till summer when it's definitely warmer (hopefully!)

Nymphadora · 09/03/2010 10:27

I was really cold a few weeks ago, am now 8 weeks and can't cool down!

AmeliaEarhart · 09/03/2010 19:39

Phew, thanks everyone for the reassurance. I wrapped-up warmer today and drank lots of cups of tea (rooibos of course!) so I wasn't so cold . I know I'm being neurotic. I'm just convinced something will go wrong! Will try and keep wibbling to a minimum.

I'm 17 weeks and have been freezing since day one and all is fine here - don't worry!

fudgecat · 09/03/2010 20:28

me too

im 7 weeks and am feeling the cold - i have two jumpers on at the momentand DP is just in a t-shirt

i guess its just one of those things

Congratulations by the way

BranflakeGirl · 09/03/2010 21:04

I have been feeling the cold since I was about 6 weeks...and still do! Especially in the nipular area when I am outdoors. I have 3 - 4 layers on AND my coat, which is wool, and the cold goes right through and makes it feel like someone is twisting my nipples off!!!

I thought it was just me being a bit weird! I am bloomin' freezing all the time!

MammyG · 09/03/2010 21:50

I am a polar bear!! I have so many layers on I have forgotten my body shape.
Branflake put those cotton make up pads in your bra. I was getting such nippilitis it was making me feel ill and this helped.

I will be this cold until middle of 2nd trimester (this is my 2nd pregnancy over winter) and then will be happy out in a vest top for remainder of pregnancy.
Its all fun and games!!

Morloth · 10/03/2010 11:35

LOL, I think it is because your comfort needs are no longer top priority for your body. Now you are climate control for your womb.

The other day when walking home in the wind. I was freezing, but my tummy was very very hot, all of the warmth was being pumped there to look after DS2.

Get used to it, even when they come out you will be more interested in their comfort than your own.

stickchildren3 · 10/03/2010 20:03

I'm 17 weeks and have been constantly freezing since day1. Not just cold, absolutely freezing and was the same with previous two pregnancies. Nothing to worry about in my opinion but just bloody miserable!

rollerbaby · 10/03/2010 20:31

I'm 6+2 and have been FREEZING since I found out. Doesn't matter how many blankets I wrap myself in... can't warm up. riving me crazy.

BikeRunSki · 10/03/2010 20:36

I was freezing cold my whole pg, even at 8 months in August. Only person to wear a vlevt coat to a June wedding!

Georgiabrown · 10/03/2010 20:51

I am 5 weeks too and am freezing all the time - spend most of the evening wrapped up in a blanket witha hot water bottle and heating turned up - husband thinks I am mad!

pleasantlyoutofdepth · 05/05/2010 11:28

Oh thank god for that! I was getting in a right pickle- can't seem to warm up, especially at night- last night I was literally shivering whilst my poor hub sweated under the extra quilt. I've read everywhere that you get hotter, nit colder so I was imagining all sorts of things! Thank god for your stressing, as otherwise I wouldn't've received this reassurance.

roundabout1 · 05/05/2010 11:35

I have been cold easily this pregnancy, last one I was boiling hot all the time even through winter so was surprised to feel so different this time.

LuluF · 05/05/2010 11:36

yep - me too with all 4 pregnancies!

Miffster · 05/05/2010 12:54

I have been taking a hot water bottle to bed every night!(now 8 weeks) and am generally freezing around the flat and wearing jumpers. I thought it was just me as well.

cardamomginger · 05/05/2010 12:58

Since getting preggers (19 weeks with DC1) have been cold pretty much all the time.
