my sister and sil got them badly too despite trying every cream - not just red / purple but skin texture permanently ruined aferwards.

my SIL's baby now 9 months and she gave me all her left over creams and she had them all - palmers scar serum, avent, bio oil, sanctuary, clarins (she also had others but used them all up).

So probably just one of these things, and they'll probably get much worse yet... I didn't get any at all until after 36 weeks.

Did you get them? I have heard that it runs in families.

I have a lot because I have gain and lost weight a few times in my life but didn't get any during pregnancy. I used palmers cocoa butter specially for pregnancy but whether that worked or I wouldn't have got them anyway I will never know. My mum never had any in either of her pregnancies.

They are not the most pleasant thing in the world but they will fade to be silvery after a while. I think bio oil is supposed to help them fade not stop them from forming so maybe she could try another type of moisturiser to stop anymore from forming?

I think you either get them or you don't, depending on how stretchy your skin is.
I used loads of creams and oils in my first pregnancy and got loads.
They do fade to a silvery colour - but TBH they never go and your skin is never the same. Although I have heard that you can have lazer treatment on them to reduce the effects but this should be done BEFOrE they fade - so too late for me!
My sister has the same skin as me and the same thing happened to her - although our mother seemed to escape without any!
