Cramps in early pregnancy

I'm 8 weeks pregnant with first baby and getting regular mild tummy cramps. No bleeding, although did have some brown discharge a couple of weeks ago. I told my midwife who's now sending me for a scan, which has started to worry me. But is this a normal occurrence?

I hope everything is ok for you at the scan. I am interested in the replies too as also getting stomach cramps occasionally at night (am nearly 6 weeks pregnant). They wake me up in pain and I need a couple of paracetamol to get back to sleep. I think some cramps are normal in pregnancy though so hopefully this will be the case for us both.

I hope so - I've heard it should be normal but don't know at what point is too much! I'm still getting morning sickness etc so hopefully all is going well...think just need that first scan over with.

Hi
I am 7 wks pg and also getting quite bad cramps. Like period pains. I remember getting them with DS2 as I thought I was getting my period but it turned out I was pg. Similar thing this time round. I wouln't worry too much. I think all will become clear at the 12 wk scan. As far as I know, it is related to growing uterus. Hope they ease up for all of us!

I am also nearly 7 weeks and have had the same for a few weeks on and off I also had the same with my last DS so I suppose this time around I am not so worried! I had scans with DS2 but they found nothing wrong and in the end put it down to the uterus stretching also they said that for the 1st 10 weeks before the baby has grwon a placenta to support it the ovary which it came from supplies all in needs this can cause some women cramping (mine was alway from the left side rather than from right a cross)

Hope that helps a little I would just see the scan as an early peep ohh and to pre warn you if you are earlier than 8 weeks its likely it will be an internal scan with what looks like a dildo cam - doesnt hurt but was a shock when I went expecting the jelly on my tummy lol!

I started a thread on here just a few days ago about the same thing. I am 6 weeks now. My GP said it was most likely down to the Uterus stretching, so nothing to worry about unless there is also bleeding.

and even bleeding doesn't always mean the worst

Hello
this has made me feel a bit calmer too folks, I have been feeling similar cramp feelings over the past 4 weeks now am 7+1 but was starting too get cramps on and off, no bleeding and bit of aches and pains round the pelvis area. Had the flu for the past week so I think maybe lying down has just given me a bad back and hips etc. Just had seemed a lot different from first time round with DS but then they say even pregnancy is different, you just expect it to be like the last don't you?? btw does anyone think being ill with something like flu will make morning sickness worse, I have been so ill over the past few days with sickness and dreading the next 7-9 weeks thanks
