Will I be able to have a filling?

Hi all I am 9+3 and I have a dentists appointment on Tuesday. I know I will need a filling as the dentist said we could have done it when I last saw her 3 months ago but it was coming upto christmas and I wanted any spare pennies for partying so I said I would wait until this appointment! It is a very large cavity so I'm guessing I will need an injection and a rather large filling. Will she do it if I'm pg?

I couldn't have one while I was PG or BF, not an amalgam one anyway.

Yes. And it is free.

Yes you can have a white one and it will be free! You might need to apply for your maternity exemption card first though - my dentist insisted on seeing mine.

you can, but IME they prefer not to, and generally won't use mercury.

my dentist has always told me to wait until the baby is born before having any fillings done, unless I am in pain from it.

Although my youngest is now 11 I remember having numerous fillings and a pair of crowns fitted whilst pregnant.

Most dentists prefer not to touch mercury fillings during pregnancy but my previous (Australian) dentist told me that there had been a very big study at the University of Adelaide that proved that actually there was no risk in doing so. So I guess it depends how risk-averse and well-read they are!

Thanks for the responses I guess I will have to wait and see!!! I havent got my exemption certificate yet but I rang the surgery and she said if I bought my notes with me that would be ok.

Is it true that littledonkin can get white fillings for free whille she is pregnant? Does this depend on where she lives?
I was told by my dentist the problem is not doing the filling but having the x-ray to determin how beep the infection was.

I never got a normal filing but the dentist put what he called a dressing on it. It actually did a better job than the filing he replaced it with. I was told i could haved a white one if i wanted but would have had to pay for that.
