I've been trying to fight it with lots of fruit and veg, bran flakes and drinking lots of water which has helped.

morning im actually suffering with the opposite to you lol , but in the beggining of my pregnancy i suffered like you , i ate plenty of oranges , prunes and drank prune juice. also found that sometimes a weak coffe with sugar helped
plus if it gets very bad then you can request lactulose from doctors

teasle · 07/03/2010 09:40

Prune juice.

emsyj · 07/03/2010 09:56

Prune juice is VILE, urgh, I've never been able to stomach it, but you might love it I suppose - someone must!
You can get lactulose over the counter. I've been taking it for a week and am still producing almost nothing, it's horrible.
The best thing for constipation in my experience is water - drink it and swim in it for as long as you can stand. Now if I can only take my own advice and brave the freezing cold council pool...

I was having a bit of trouble, but it seems to have eased, pardon the pun, since having weetabix or bran flakes every morning! My dp has found that ryvita seem to have a bit of a laxative effect on him, might be worth a try!

Thanks all, I bet prune juice wks well but I dnt think i can stomach it, will def get a big bottle of water every day this week and drink my way through them and see if i'm better at the end of the week

Have had a bit of trouble too. Have been trying linseed / flaxseed - a tablesppon or so on muesli/ porridge / yoghurt once a day. I think it is making a bit of differece, has been a bit better since doing that, as long as I also drink lots of water - seems to be very easy to dehydrate while pg.

theslumbertaker · 08/03/2010 14:03

I will second the bran flakes advice, since starting on those everyday I have been able to give up my lactulose habit. Bran flakes taste much better...

lucylev · 19/03/2010 07:30

am much better, bran flakes are the best! along with fresh fruit and lots of water

Thanks

I'm now 34 wks and have suffered with the dreaded constipation since the early days and now also have a lovely set of piles to go with - deep joy!!

Things have eased considerably over the last couple of weeks thanks to the following: 2 teaspoons of lactulose a day as prescribed by my GP, either Bran Flakes with added sultanas or even better as higher bran content is All Bran with added blueberries for taste, at least 3 pieces of fruit a day and several pints of yummy tooth-kind Ribeana.

flybynight · 19/03/2010 11:53

I was troubled quite a bit earlier on (now 35 weeks) but I've found a daily bowl of porridge works better than anything. Sadly, go the piles anyway .

flybynight · 19/03/2010 11:53

That is "got" of course.
