I have a period every 21 days, so does anyone know when my fertile period is in the month? Is it still 14 days before period or is it 10 to 11? Also is there anyway i can still calculate a way to manipulate the gender if my dates are so up the wall?

What about using ovulation tests, that way you'll at least know when you should be 'trying'. If you use the tests you should be able to try for girl/boy too as you'll know.

ALWAYS 14 days before af! Thats what i was told when i had fertility problems - so you should bd days 5-10 !

I had odd cycle and found ovulation tests were leaving it too late. Best thing is to BD every other day/ every 3rd day from the day your AF stops. Then you can guarantee you'll hit your best time. It can become a bit of a chore but after 6 months of trying around the 14 day mark and using ov. tests, it only took 2 months when we swapped to regular BDing for a baby to happen.

As for gender, i think girl sperm live longer and boy sperm swim faster (please correct me if it's the other way round), so for a boy BD at ovulation for a girl BD a couple of days before - theoretically.

Is not possible that you ovulate ALWAYS 14 days before period.

I'm pg and have 50-day cycles. But my dates are only 2 days out when I had my 12-week scan. By rights, I should only have been about 10 weeks pg, if that - and I wasn't, I was 12+4 instead of 12+6.

I'd use ovulation tests if I was you. Or just have sex every day for a month...

i thought it was mid way through your cycle so if it is a 20 day cycle then it's on day 10.

Ov tests worked a treat for me.

eant to sya i had 35 day cycle but used to ov on cd19 so obviously 16 days b4 period. I used ov prediction kits to get pg..welll used clearblue digi one month and got pg.

Well, I must have ovulated about 14 days into my cycle, not 25.

rattleon - if your cycle is that short it may be that your post luteal phase (think this is what it's called) is not long enough. The egg needs 10/11 days after ovulation to get to the womb before you start a period. I remember from the ttc boards that a couple of people had this problem. Are you sure you ovulate ok? Should be on day 9/10 of a 21 day cycle if everything is alright.

Moomin, could you explain why this is? I thought that if the egg fertilised then it would just travel down and implant and you wouldn't get a period, so whats the significance of the 10/11 days? (hope you don't mind but I'm ttc at the mo and need to know everything that might help!!)

Having sex every day won't necessarily work either: it can lower your partner's sperm count without a chance to regenerate it. Every other day is supposed to be better.

Charting (taking your basal temperature and judging your mucus viscosity / cervix height and softness) reduces the margin for error massively. See Fertility Friend (which someone has already mentioned) or Ovusoft - which although not free software, is comparatively cheap and - in my experience - easier to use.

You don't always ovulate 14 days before your period starts. And I think implantation can occur from 8 days post ovulation, but most usually around day 11. However, if crumbly memory serves me right, there is a problem with a luteal (post ovulation) phase which is too short: either the egg doesn't have a chance to implant, or the endometrium isn't conducive to implantation when it gets there / has started to break down. Vitamin B6 supplements and / or progesterone pessaries have been suggested to lengthen the luteal phase, but whether this really works or whether it's just snake oil, I'm not certain. The reason I wonder whether it's snake oil is because it used to be thought that women suffered early miscarriage because their progesterone levels weren't high enough; now, apparently, it's thought that progesterone levels aren't high enough because the fertilised egg isn't viable anyway.

the sooner implantation occurs after ovulation the more chance of a successful pg. Somewhere ( when i was miscarrying) i found a chart stating days post fertilisation and implantation . It correlates strongly with successful pg.

A short luteal phase can mean you get af less than 14 days before ovulation but this could indicate problems.
My cycles varied from 30 - 60 days and the consultant at leeds told me to always go with 14 days before af. he was adamant as i was questionning it having used sticks........
