My DD is really making me laugh about this second baby, she's got it all figured out in her own little way!

So far she has said that the baby in my tummy has the same name as her, and that she has a tiny baby in her tummy too which has the same name as me.....

I asked if she'd help me take care of the little baby and she said yes, but not if it leaves poo on her arm, because that will stink! (no rose tinted specs here!)

Also while getting dressed this morning she said 'Ooh Mummy I LOVE your new boobies! They're just so big and.....wobbly!' whilst she did a little wobble!

She cracks me up!

DS (2.4) is well aware that there is a baby in my tummy, but luckily hasn't enquired how it got there or how it's coming out again.

I got a new sling for my birthday and it came in a pretty box with a picture of a sleeping newborn in the sling. DS exclaimed in round-eyed awe 'It's the baby!'. He was most disappointed to find a length of fabric in the box instead. If only it was that simple...

Faintly ROFL at the buy a baby in a box!!!

misspollysdolly · 17/03/2010 13:01

I have three DCs. When DS2 was about 9 months old, I was in the car with DS1 when he spotted a lady outside pushing a buggy and commented on the 'lady with the baby' he could see.

I would like one day to have another DC, so I thought I'd just float the idea with him and see what he thought. SO I said, 'DS1, shall we have a another baby sometime...?' to which he replied that he liked this idea, and that we could have a girl and call it Lily, yada, yada, yada. Then there was a long thoughtful pause (he is a very thoughtful child) and a little bit later he said to me 'Actually Mummy, let's not have another baby. Let's just keep DS2.'

I started trying to explain that I meant having an ADDITIONAL baby, not swapping him for a different baby, but by thenI sensed I was fighting a losing battle!!

Pmsl at adding ketchup to cake mix to grow a baby!

This thread is so funny. Children are so cute!

I've have quite a few friends that are pregnant/have had babies recently including my sister and SIL. DD (2.9) was adamant that she had a baby in her tummy. I explained to her that she didn't. She looked most disappointed and said, "oh but I wanted a sister!"

I myself, was born by CS so that's how i thought that babies were born! I was horrified when I learnt how babies are supposed to come out.

appu · 17/03/2010 17:42

This thread is great!
I am pregnant with my first one but reading all the posts, I want to have a second one now!

PANCHEY · 17/03/2010 20:52

Throughout my pregnancy with DD2, DD1 stopped eating nuts saying that she had a baby in her tummy and that she should not eat them. She has been "pregnant" so many times that I hope this is not indicative of the future. Yesterday she told me "tomorrow I am going to have a baby in my tummy".....if only life could be so ordered....

wheredidmyfeetgo · 17/03/2010 21:12

I'm 25 weeks with DC3. Whilst bathing my DS's (3.1 and 22mths) I let out an almighty sneeze which made me grap my bump. DS1 looked at me a little surprised and asked "Mummy is the baby coming?"
I restrained from laughing and told him no not yet but Mummy does hope that this one will come out as easily as sneezing!

feedthegoat · 17/03/2010 21:27

I've got an only child so he's not had the opportunity to really get to know what goes on close up with pregnancy .

The first time I explained it all I finished off with 'So that is what happened when you were born'. He looked at me horrified saying 'NO it didn't!'. I asked him what he thought had happened. Apparently I got him from Tesco!

I still don't think he gets it though. We were walking to preschool this morning and he asked if he could have a baby brother because he could go and stay with baa (grandma) whilst I 'hatched' the baby!

LionsAreScary · 17/03/2010 22:44

My DS1 told me that he remembers being in my tummy. When I asked him what it was like, he replied, "Dark"!

Love this thread.

OhForASilentNight · 18/03/2010 09:18

DD1 told everyone that mummy was having a baby tiger, daddy was going to have a panda bear (not even a baby one!) and that she was going to have a baby snake... now she just keeps asking me why I've STILL got a big fat tummy (DD2 now 6 weeks and if I say so myself my tummy is not THAT big and fat!)

leothelioness · 18/03/2010 11:02

my DS1 was about 2 1/2 whan we told him that I was expecting another baby. I took him to one of my scans and the doctor commented "look at him bouncing all around the place" and from that point DS1 was convinced that Ihad a rabbit in my tummy and no amount of explaining would convince him otherwise. I think he was quite dissapointed when he say ds2 in hospital and he was not a fluffy bunny!

downbutnotout · 18/03/2010 11:38

I've posted this before but it still tickles me, so here goes:

When I was pregnant with ds, my dd (then 4) looked thoughtfully at my bump one day and said: "Mummy, how did the baby get in there?"

I explained that Mummy had an egg and Daddy had a seed and they joined together and made the baby.

She then asked: "So how does the seed get in there?"

I'd had a conversation with a friend recently that had revealed a useful euphemism and so put it into practice: "Mummy and Daddy have a special cuddle and that's when it happens."

She thought about it and asked: "So can I watch you having the special cuddle then?"

That would be a no.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 18/03/2010 11:41

DS1 (3.11) understands this time that there is a baby in mummys tummy but he thinks it will be another DS2, like having a belated idetical twin for DS2! He thinks we should call it Butty Butty and is worried it is going to come out of my bum and get poo all over him

NichyNoo · 18/03/2010 12:10

I was 3 when my little sister was born and asked my mum how the baby got there etc. She gave a reply almost identical to downbutnotout about the egg and seed but I obviously didn't understand the seed part and thought she meant seaweed.

Hence for years afterwards I told everyone that my sister was made from daddy's seaweed. No-one ever corrected me

DownyEmerald · 18/03/2010 13:59

My dd thinks that in all my life previous to her birth she was in my tummy.

We discovered yesterday she also think that dp and I have known each other since we were babies and is a bit sad that it isn't true.

pamelat · 18/03/2010 20:37

Just to add to my earlier DD's comments. I lay down the other day on the sofa making a generally huffy noise.

Am 32 weeks preg. DD (2.2) looked at me and said "what the matter mummy, your baby hurt" bless her! Not so much funny as eye wateringly cute.

She then proceeded to stroke bump, very briefly, and say "all ok now". Maybe a tactic for labour, bless her.

gingerkirsty · 19/03/2010 15:09

BUMPing for more cute stories! I am loving this thread - more please!

gingerkirsty · 19/03/2010 15:56

Anyone? Oh go on!

TootaLaFruit · 19/03/2010 16:48

Just to please gingerkirsty... not so much a funny pregnancy story but one that shows how cute kids are:

when my cousin was little we were quizzing him on pregnancy/babies etc, and he was talking about how babies drink milk from the mummy's boobies, but the mummy has to keep her boobs in the fridge at night or else the milk turns to cheese

No idea where he got that from but he was adamant that it was true

gingerkirsty · 20/03/2010 07:21

Thanks Toota that is classic! It is actually a very clever assumption to make, bless him!

On being told that he was to have a baby brother or sister my DS shouted "I don't want a brother or a sister or a dog, I want a kitten"

After he adjusted to that he idea he asked where the door was for the baby to get out :0

Bumperlicious · 21/03/2010 09:01

DD 2.7 keeps saying anxiously 'mummy don't drop your baby' or 'don't drop your baby in the bath'

xmaximumx · 21/03/2010 21:35

I'm due tomorrow and the little girl who lives next door has been counting down the days because she's so excited to meet the baby. She asked me today, "so what time is your baby due tomorrow?" Ha. If only it was all that simple! When I explained that they don't actually give you an exact time and sometimes babies are up to 2 weeks late she looked absolutely horrified poor thing, I guess it must be like waiting for christmas and then finding out on christmas eve that they'd changed the date.
