Hi, i have just had my dating scan date through the post and its for the 12th April, i will be 14/15 weeks along, should i worry im thinking of going private for my own reassurance as i had a mc in Dec.
If my dating one is at 14/15 weeks do they do the 12 weeks scan stuff at that scan or rebook another one. This is too confusing.

Mine was at 15 weeks and they did all the 12 week things then, although the sonographer was huffy because the sizes were just off the chart due to the date!!!

Having said this, I had already had an 8 week scan (which turned out to be 10.5 weeks ) at our EPU due to previous mcs, and it is worth asking if you could go for an early reassurance scan at your local one.

im having similar worries. im waiting for the date for mine now, but i think i may be three weeks earlier along than my midwife thinks, as i think my last "period" was only an implantation bleed. i told her this, and she said "dont worry, that'll only make you 15 weeks".
surely that does make a difference?!

14/15 weeks is too late I think if you want the nuchal fold measurement done. Phone them up and see if you can get an earlier one.

Ok thank you, i was told it was urgent due to my mc by the doc which is why i couldnt understand leaving me till 12 april. Thanks

Can't have a nuchal scan that late - so call the hospital to clarify - nuchal scan needs to be done by 14 weeks.

Only you can decide whether to have private scan for reassurance - are you having pregnancy symptoms? If so probably not much point (unless you can't get nuchal scan on NHS and want to have one etc)

Don't go for a private scan until you've seen an nhs doctor - maybe different in your area but they've given me early scans three times because of cramps and previous mcs, and have always been very helpful and efficient about it. I might be wrong but I don't think it's that much trouble to fit you in as often if you're in hosp. anyway for something gynae they send you along there without any booking. Sorry that has a depressing tone - I just mean don't pay if your doctor might easily get you one, which they have in my exp.

Get a private 'screening scan' which is optimally done between 11 and 14 weeks. This will allow a measurement of the 'nuchal thickness' the fluid thickness at the back of your baby's neck, plus some blood hormone tests which can help to give you a risk of your baby having a chromosomal problem (such as Downs syndrome)- you do not have to have the scan and blood test- it is an opt in test.

You must be around 9-10 weeks now, and at 14-15 weeks you would have missed the best 'window of opportunity' to have the screening tests done. My advice would be to call your NHS hospital and ask for an 11-14 week nuchal screening scan. If they do not offer this test, go privately to the Fetal medicine foundation in Devonshire place, london, or any private screening set up that is recommended near to where you live. Hope all goes well, it is always such an anxious time when you have had a miscarriage before.
