You might all think I'm being mean, but DH is getting on my nerves a bit with this second pregnancy!

I'm only 5/6 weeks gone and he keeps patting mt tummy and grinning at me all gooey eyed (while I sort of frown back at him) Maybe he was like this the first time, I can't remember, but I'm finding it a bit cheesey!

We're having to tell our famillies now because there are several big occasions coming up and I can't think of enough plausable excuses for not drinking etc, so we're telling my lot tonight. I just don't want him overdoing the whole thing with all this patting etc I'll be embarrassed. How do I ask him to tone it down, at least until I have some sort of belly, without hurting his feelings?

Oh and also he told me he loves me, no exaggeration, about 8 times in half an hour this morning! By the 8th time I felt like shouting AL-FUCKING-RIGHT!!! I get it!!

ha ha! God I sound awful don't I? I'm all for love and happiness.....just in moderation!

Ha ha - and again.

No my DH is the complete opposite - has never ever felt my stomach even through two previous pregnancies. Somewhere in the middle would be nice!

ReneRusso · 06/03/2010 10:35

Would he be offended by "Would you mind not touching me in front of everyone, you're embarrassing me"? I don't think that's hurting his feelings, but maybe your DH is more sensitive than mine.
Think yourself lucky. My DH won't go near my bump. Even when the baby first started kicking he could hardly be persuaded to feel it.

Better too much attention than none at all- lap it up, I say!

moominmarvellous · 06/03/2010 11:39

Hmmmm ok, I'll scrap the headbutting plan a, and go for plan b) the direct approach

I think he thinks that I'm not very happy about this new baby because I had a bit of a panic when we first found out, about coping with 2 as DC1 is a terrible sleeper as it is - and if I tell him to give it a rest he'll think that it's because of that......when truth is I'm just not quite as lovey dovey as I was 4 years and alot of sleep ago!

Poor bugger.

Yes somewhere in the middle would be nice!

To be honest hun, I have to actually ask my DH to rub my belly (18 weeks now) and make an effort to 'bond' with his unborn baby. I have to drag him to shops for baby stuff etc and he just seems to ho hum about his first born child! So enjoy the attention from your DH even if you do feel moody and want to strangle him because at least he's not being a complete detatched jerk about it!

i think my dh is somewhere in the middle. in the first tri he wasnt that involved as we've had miscarriages so i guess he didnt want to get too attached. second tri when i finally started showing he started being more helpful. Then in third tri he's been ringing me every day from work to see if there are any signs, hows my baby today? and have i heard from beanie today? i have told him to lay off a bit which has worked. i suppose its all rather weird for men if we look at it from their view.

Dh is pretty blase and not overly effusive but when things have not been plain sailing in this pg he's been quietly present. He also takes the older two out at the weekend to give me a break.

And this afternoon he's had stern words with the builder/project manager (disturbing his Saturday ) when dh found me scrubbing at the messy floor the builders left. Now I will have the hurt/angry feelings of the builder to mollify on Monday who excels at making making an issue of his integrity if you question anything.
