Internal at ante-natal?

Is it weird to ask for one? I have an appointment this afternoon and have been having contractions on/off for a week or so now. Was thinking of asking MW to have a look.

This is a pretty normal request isn't it?

Am 38 weeks, DS1 was born on the dot of 40weeks with no lead up in contractions at all, so this is the first time I have had BH etc.

I'd say you can request it, but she may well want to wait till a bit closer.

TBH as well, even if she checked you and said "Oh yes, 3cm dilated, all looking good" you could still be very pregnant in 4 weeks time.

I had much more BH with 2nd pregnancy than first. DD born 40+2 DS born 40+3 so was still slightly late despite regular cycles of BH from around 36 weeks. Personally don't see any point in internal unless at term if you want a sweep.

She may well not want to do it (It's not going to change your care is it?)

In my first pg I had read What to Expect (baaad mistake) and was shocked when my mw didn't do one. Very soon I realised that whilst WTE has many good points (jolly good doorstop, fire lighter, step for reaching jars on the top shelf, emergency missile, spare breezeblock, loo roll)being an informative, evidence-based pregnancy guide isn't one of them.

Had one, no problem she was happy to do it.

Am 1cm, so no hurry.

When I had DS my OB had a look at each appointment as standard.
