I am currently pregnant following 3 recurrent m/c's at between 8 - 11 weeeks.I have 2 dc's 8 & 6.
I was seen at the epu at six weeks and had an internal scan and saw a heartbeat
The nurse/midwife told me that they would not rescan me again until 9 weeks (next tues) as it would not be worthwhile.
Could people please tell me their experiences about epu's and scans. I hope everything will be ok this time, still suffering from nausea, sore boobs etc.
I just don't want to go to the appt and them to tell me come back in another three weeks.
Just terrified everything will go wrong again
Thank you in advance

I have had 2 mc, have 2 dds and am pregnant with dc3.

Each pregnancy I have been scanned at 6 weeks, and then again at about 9 weeks then gone on to have a nuchal scan around 12-14 weeks.

I think at 9 weeks they will be able to see a lot more development, and you will hopefully be reassured. The wait between scans in the early days is so hard, keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I found the following helpful to read that with this pregnancy having had a MMC last time.

Extract from the Miscarriage association website: "Research has shown that if you see a heartbeat at 6 weeks of pregnancy, the chances of the pregnancy continuing are 78%. A heartbeat at 8 weeks increases the chance of a continuing pregnancy to 98% and at 10 weeks to 99.4%. So things could still go wrong, but as long as there is a heartbeat, the risk of miscarriage decreases as the weeks go by."

Good luck with the next scan.

at nine weeks they can see a very recognisable fetus, a little like a kidney bean...I had lots of early scans in this pregnancy due to bleeding and previous losses and was amazed at the visible difference from the 7 week scan I had and the 9 week one...If you want to see what to expect..click on my profile and look at my pics..my 9 week scan is there...Im now nearly 31 weeks

best of luck

i had a scan at 6 weeks to check baby wasn't ectopic again....i then had some really pain at 9wks so went back to same epu and sat and waited for another scan for two hours {i would have waited 2 days...} all fine....i have NHS 12wk scan on mon but overcome by paranoia on fri went and paid for a pvte scan for 80quid....11+4wks and baby is a proper little human being...really looking forward to NMHS one now instead of dreading it, my last 12wk scan showed MMC so i really needed the reassurance and it was soooo worth the money.....if you can afford it, get one....

hope everything goes well for you.

x

hairyclaireyfairey - any news? Hope you are ok.

hairyclaireyfairey · 02/03/2010 20:47

awww Hazeyjane that's so nice of you to think of me.
Sadly no heartbeat today, dates 9+4 this time so horribly upseting not helped by the epu staff staff either But they have agreed to do karotyping on the pregnancy this time erpc thurs.
There has to be an answer surely not just bad luck to lose at 8-9 weeks four times.
yuk, yuk, yuk

Oh hairyclaireyfairey really sorry to hear your bad news. I'm afraid I only just came across this thread. Hopefully they'll find out what the problem is and very very soon you'll have a healthy little one crossing that 8-9 week rubicon.... do take care of yourself

hazeyjane · 03/03/2010 07:59

Sorry to hear your news, Hairyclaireyfairy. Glad they are going to do some testing, but sorry to hear you had some rough treatment from epu staff - so many people have to go through this agony, why haven't they learnt to deal with it more sensitively.

I keep my fingers crossed for you, take care.

I had 5 misc , and pregnant i have reached 10wks, not enjoying. i usually get seen at the epu, i had a threatned misc at the weekend, and a scan on mon saw a heart beat, fine, and then they are scaning again 12 wks, then im on my own, with the midwife. the epu at my hospital in warrington, will see you up until 18wks preg, then you get transferred.
