Clothing for baby question

I'm 35 weeks pregnant with my first - due on 2nd April. We have been given lots of clothes by SIL, so have plenty of babygrows, vests, sleepsuits etc. We've also bought a few outfits (trousers and long-sleeved T-shirts), hats, bibs, socks, scratch mitts. MIL mentioned on the phone the other night about a pramsuit. I hadn't even thought about that. Do I need to get one? SIL has given us a jacket, and we have a carrycot and cosytoes for our Maclaren XLR pushchair. So, I was thinking we didn't need a pramsuit, especially as the weather should be getting warmer by end March/start April. But now I'm not sure.

Can anyone advise? Thanks!

I my personal opinion, I never used a pramsuit, except in a sling. I found that jackets/jumpers/blankets and a cosy toes was enough in a pram, but I guess it's a matter of personal preference!!
I found layers to be better than one big thick suit!!

we are due on the same day!

We haven't bought a pram suit for exactly that reason. The weather should be warming up by then and we have a cosy toe for our buggy which should be more than adequate for the short time she will be in it while it is still reasonably cold.

I was going to leave the pram suit until next winter when she will be 7-8 months old.

top tip is to leave the tags on the 'outfits' and swap them for some cardigans and/or a pramsuit depending on weather.

ds (4wks) wears a pramsuit every day atm as it's much easier to put one item on over his babygrow than fannying about putting on and taking off multiple items eg jumper and jacket and blanket

oh and other top tip - don't buy any 'indoor' clothes (tshirts, cardies) with hoods or zips as they get all rucked up when they sleep in them

mrsbadger that is a top tip.
I was bought so much stuff as presents I am glad that I never took off the tags. I don't think people mind if you swap an item for something else for baby, I swapped alot of 0-3 month stuff for bigger sizes as I had a ton of small stuff.
TBH I know it's dead cute to dress them up when they're tiny in little outfits, but sometimes it's such a faff, when they are tiny it's much easier just to wear babygrows, trust me when you have spent 10 minutes wrestling baby into a matching 3 peice outfit then they puke down it so you have to change it, you will start to question your own sanity at having bothered in the first place!!!

Strongly agree with the above two posts- outfits were a novelty pain in the arse.

Pramsuit I liked as there were definitely no draughts, but then dd was a January baby and you're probably right in thinking that you would get away without one in the warmer weather.

My Dd was born in May and we didn't need a pram suit until November so I'd definitely leave it for now.

My top tip would be to practice doing up the poppers on the baby gros, especially if they are new! I spent so much time fumbling around in a sleep deprived haze cursing the poppers for the first few weeks. I remember wishing that someone would invent magnetic ones!

I found little pairs of soft trousers with feet in very useful at first too (avoided the dreaded poppers ) Useful for when the baby only makes a mess at one end 9either sick or poo) so you don't have to get them completely changed.

I wouldn't bother with a pramsuit either - my DD was a January baby and we still never really used any of the three that we had. They were either ginormous or suddenly they were tiny. And the cosy toes is really warm.

But I think if you are planning to use a sling, you might want one? And it depends where you live too... Here in Liverpool it wouldn't matter when your baby was born, it could still be freezing!

With your due date I can see why you might want to hold off. We had snowsuits for Immy but since we mainly used the baby carrier when she was little, she was more often than not in one of the thinner ones since my bodyheat contributed to her temperature.

Other than that, keeping a couple of blankets in the buggy saves all the faff trying to get it on and off, particularly if you're going in and out of very overheated shops. Bear in mind that your baby is far more likely to overheat than to be too cold.

Thanks for the comments. We're in Belgium, so pretty much the same weather as in the South-East of England. We've got a second-hand Baby Bjorn sling, so maybe we should look at getting a thinnish pramsuit for baby to wear when he's in the sling? I hadn't really thought about that to be honest. It's the Baby Bjorn Synergy, which is supposed to be pretty warm, but I guess his legs might get cold?

Apart from that, sounds like he'll be fine in his carrycot and/or cosytoes for the moment.
