bleeding in v. v. early pregnancy

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone can offer any words of advice at all..

On Monday I had my first ever BFP - have been trying since May so was so shocked and tentatively happy! However yesterday I had a bit of bleeding - it was only when I wiped but was bright red (& a bit watery). This morning I also had the same - again only when I wiped but was still that worrying bright red colour. This is almost certainly TMI but anyway - I've been a bit constipated this week which i know can be due to pregnancy, and both times I had the bright red blood was when I was 'trying' to go for a poo (sorry! tmi I know but may as well give you all the info!)

Am now sat at work and worrying & filled with fear every time I go to the toilet but have had nothing since. I havnt got any cramps/pain (yet) - Im preparing myself the worst but just wondered if anyone has any words of wisdom/experiences of this at all?

Hi, I had some spotting/bleeding after finding out I was pregnant (I was 8 weeks). I too found it hard to go to the loo, and it seemed to happen after a visit. I called my surgery, who told me to call the mw (who I hadn't even seen yet) and she arranged for me to go into the EPU to have a scan, where they found a healthy heartbeat, but they couldn't find any source of the bleed. I was told by a midwife at the EPU that constipation can sometimes cause this (TMI but if you're trying too hard) so it's best to drink LOADS of water.

I'd give calling your GP a go, I think then that they can either see you or pass you to someone who can help. Hope that helps, and good luck

I had a similar think happen a number of times in this pregnancy. Am now 14 weeks and baby is perfectly healthy - they never were able to find the source of the bleed. I was told most likely cervical erosion. The act of going for a poo with constipation definitely seemed to push things out - I'm not sure I'd have even noticed otherwise (and the blood would probably just have been reabsorbed) it was such a small amount.
Anyway, my advice: ring the Drs and get an early scan booked, if only for reassurance.

If you tested early it could be the fabled implantation bleeding.

I had the same thing as you once or twice - old blood however - but occurred when I was straining a tad. For me it was bad news, but there's no reason it will be the same for you. Like Gilly says, go to your GP if you're worried.

i am sorry to hear that you are worried. Do you have any pg symptoms other than the BFP? I had a mc last month and it started with a tiny tiny amount of red spotting on the Sat and again on the Sunday, then nothing. I was 6 weeks ish. I wasn't so worried about the spotting, but the nausea I had felt had gone and my boobs had stopped hurting and shrunk back to their usual size and sagginess (I already have one child!), and then I was really worried. I did a test on the Monday and one on the Tues and the second one was fainter so I knew it was all going wrong. I had also been to the dr on the Monday who took a blood test which we were going to repeat a couple of days later, but there was no need. When I started bleeding on the Tues afternoon I had had no pain at all, and a scan on the Weds confirmed what had happened.

However, I have read lots and lots of stories, and have friends who have had really quite heavy bleeding and cramps and everything has been fine. Sometimes there has been an explanation, but quite often not. So you could be completely fine.

Also, the other thing it could be is breakthrough bleeding when your period is due - I believe this is really common. I am not sure it could be implantation bleeding because I think it has to implant before the HCG is produced? Not sure.

Why not try doing another test using the same brand?

I meant to add that if the worst happens, that this might also help - I too was trying since last summer and nothing happened til December when we were "on a break" from TTC. However, 2 weeks after the MC, I was pg again, and am now 6 weeks again (yes, I am terrified the same will happen) - what I am trying to say that it has been suggested that you are more fertile after a mc, so you may not have to wait too long for another BFP.

But I am sure you'll be just fine. X

I had light bleeding from 5 weeks with both of my (healthy) pregnancies. With my second, I bled a little bit every day till 16 weeks.

Speak to your GP, he or she may be able to refer you for a scan if it continues. But it was explained to me that it is caused by all the new blood vessels that are forming - sometimes, a few of them break, a bit like a nosebleed. But the pregnancy is fine.

The GP said to me that bleeding in pregnancy is 'never normal, but not unusual' i.e. it shouldn't happen, but it often does. You might be advised to put your feet up for a bit, whether that makes any difference or not is impossible to tell. Try not to worry (I know that is difficult) and concentrate on looking after yourself (prune juice!!).

Thanks so much for all your advice, its so reassuring to hear others who have been through something similar. Unfortunately for me this time I'm pretty sure it is bad news as the bleeding has got heavier and now having painful period type cramps. Thanks DomesticGoddess though with your words of encouragemnt reading falling pg again after and mc - hope your pregnancy goes smoothly!
