Just discovered I have an ovarian cyst at 17 weeks. Not sure whether to worry...

I only read the notes from my scan yesterday, prior to going to see the midwife, and discovered I have a simple cyst 2.7cm x 3.5cm on my left ovary.

The midwife said that the consultant would perhaps scan me again at my scheduled appointment on Friday (17 weeks)to see if it had got bigger but wasn't particularly reassuring.

Anyone got any stories? My online digging hasn't really been helpful re cysts in pregnancy. Is it likely to go away by itself or will I need to have it removed? Is it a threat to the baby or my own wellbeing?

Just looking for a bit of reassurance - I'm not worried about it being cancerous although my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer last year during her 2nd trimester..

i had a cyst on my ovary along with i huge blood clot when i was pregnant, it was really early on when they discovered it as i hadn't even had my appointment for my 1st scan. i went to a&e as i was bleeding quite heavily and thought i was MC.
when they scaned me they saw that everything was fine with ds although the blood clot was bigger than he was! told me about the cyst but it was a kind of off the cuff remark the nurse didn't seem overly worried so i didn't worry and when i mentioned it later on when i had problem towards the end of my pregnancy nobody seemed overly worried either.
I dont think its anything to worry about if it was they would have mentioned something to you at the time.

Hi. I had a cyst found at a 7 week scan but was 10cm by 10cm so much bigger. They said I would of had to have it removed it hadn't shrunk by 12 weeks. At the 12 week scan it had halved in size so they didn't need to do anymore. By the 20 week scan it had completely gone. I think its only a problem if the cyst is over 5cm in size so you shouldn't worry and no doubt it will be gone before you know it. Hope that helps xx

ime, cysts are common during pregnancy, i had one, by the 23 weeks scan (my 20 week scan was delayed due to waiting for amnio results) it had gone.
