unsure of dates and spotting

I found out I was pregnant last Tuesday and started spotting almost straight away. Went for blood tests every 2 days and HCG level went from 17.5 to 70 to 164. They told me I was earlier in pregnancy than 1st thought and it wasn't possible to scan yet so should contact my GP to arrange a dating scan at around 8 weeks but don't know when 8 weeks is! My 1st day of last period was 12th Jan making me around 6 weeks but they think I may be less. I'm still spotting now, it's been brown all the way through apart for 1 small bit of blood at the start. Words of advice and encouragement would be really appreciated. This is my 1st pregnancy and never thought I'd be soooo scared so early on

Firstly, don't panic! This happened to me too (almost exactly a year ago when I'd just found out I was pregnant) and I found it reeeally scary. Saw a doctor and he said that as long as its just spotting and its not bright red then its prob just an implantation bleed -when the embryo implants itself it sometimes causes a small bleed. Went for an internal scan and everything was fine. Think its worth getting it checked out but try not to worry.
