Today I face up to relegating my pencil skirts to the closet for the next year or so. Unzipping a bit at the top is no longer working and I do have to get somehing worky. I mainly dress smart and wear suits but I dont want to spend a fortune. I have a few flowing non-maternity dresses ("fat or pregnant " style). Any recommendations of where to shop (Am in Manchester, so not London)?

You could try here

They have some nice stuff. It depends on how much you want to spend really. Isabella Oliver do nice stuff but it is expensive.

H&M also have some nice stuff.

There is also some smart stuff at crave

love the purple scoop neck wrap dress at crave. Maybe I dont have to spend the next 6 months in hideously unflattering trousers

i bought a lovely wrap dress in a size up from normal from Laura Ashley. It is black jersey and drapes beautifully. I wear it when i have important meetings at work and it looks really good even now my bump is so big it has its own gravity.

I have also bought a few wrap style maternity dresses from M&S and from Next. Their winter collection was pretty good. I haven't checked out their spring collection yet but it might be worth a look.

JJMB also has some lovely stuff which would be good for work which is not too badly priced.

good luck.

I've bought bags of great stuff for pennies on ebay - - it's definitely worth checking out.

I've got that purple scoop neck Crave dress and I practically live in it for work.

Red Herring at Debenhams is good

gnatbite · 23/02/2010 14:14

I got a great dress and some trousers in Gap, they are probably the things I have lived in the most - a couple of Red Herring bits too (tend to get complimented by old ladies when I wear these so maybe a bit frumpier than other stuff!!)

Why do Maternity designers think you should live in combat trousers? I have 3 children and have worked throughout the pregnancies. Formes used to be excellent but has closed down the best place now is Isabel Oliver but I also got some good pieces from Seraphina and Noppies.
