Are all Type 1 diabetics induced?

I am Type 1, 32 weeks and have managed to maintain great control throughout the pregnancy so far. My consultant is adamant I will be induced at 38 weeks regardless and I want to do everything possible to avoid this as I fear it will descend into a cascade of medical intervention. Have any other Type 1's managed to avoid this? How? Every time I ask my consultant why it's necessary she says diabetic babies are not as 'happy' staying in the womb. I understand the risks of big babies, decreased placental function etc, but surely if I am well and the baby is monitored and all is well, wny do I have to be induced? I will not take unnecessary risks but I want as natural a birth as possible.
