Vomiting with heartburn

In my last pregnancy I had such horrendous heartburn that I threw up a couple of times, am now having the same problem with this pregnancy. Despite swallowing rennie and gaviscon like it's going out of fashion nothing is helping with the heartburn. Have followed all the recommended advice ie don't eat a few hours before going to bed, small portions, avoid trigger foods like caffeine etc but nothing helps. I did mention the problem to my midwife but she seemed to think there was nothing I could take.

Is it worth seeing a gp about this? I saw my gp in my last pregnancy and he just prescribed gaviscon, but my experience is that gaviscon just does not work. At all.

I had the same problem..infact it was one of my signs that i was pregnant. I had it with all three. Try to prop yourself up slightly at night when in bed as lying down makes it worse and causes the acid to rise. I went through a lot of milk and milkshakes easied it for a bit. Spicy food not good either..and all i was prescribed was gaviscon too and didnt work for me either. Was so bad at night i couldnt sleep very well so deepest sympathy for you.

I don't vomit with heartburn, but I do get mouthfuls of acid and constant burning in my ears. Ranitidine - available over the counter as Zantac and other trade names as well as supermarket own brands for pennies - was recommended to me by a pharmacist as harmless in pregnancy. It is extremely effective.
