I'm not 33 weeks pregnant and was suffering from really itchy hands and feet. I wasn't getting any sleep at all and my mother told me that she had heard something about that in pregnancy so I got it checked out at the midwifes. After nhaving my bloods taken I got the results back saying I have obstetric cholestasis. I am on various tablets and have been told theres a higher risk of still birth. I've had to leave work early so that I can attend 2-3 hospital visits a week ... I'm so so scared!! Carried a baby for 33 weeks and now she may not survive

Has anyone else had this in their pregnancies??

I haven't had this, but thought I'd bump it for you. It is obviously a very anxious time for you.

Are you going to be induced early? That's what usually happens with OC I think?

mumtobe2010 · 22/02/2010 10:28

Thanks

I have been told I will get induced at about 37 weeks. I have another hospital check up today then scan tomorrow so hopefully they can tell me more then.

Hi mumtobe2010. I am 26+5 and have just been diagnosed with OC. Have been itching since the beginning of January. It is now completely unbearable, despite several tablets and ursodeoxycholic acid, plus many creams. Going to bed is like hell, I feel like just lying in the bath all night. I honestly don't know how I am going to cope with this for the rest of my pregnancy. I am so tired and miserable, have had the last 3 weeks off work. Sorry to be so negative. I am seeing the consultant again on Friday when they will discuss how they are going to manage this. This is my 4th baby and have never experienced anything like this before.
Sorry to just spill everything out, but just wanted to let you know that I completely empathise with you. I hope you are feeling okay and that you are getting good care from the hospital.

I too had this with DD2. I was luckier than you in that it didn't start until 37 weeks, even so they brought my section forward to 38 weeks.

I would really take heart that you have a diagnosis and will now be constantly monitored. I'm not a medic, but I really think it's very unlikely indeed that you will lose your baby.

Try not to fret unduly, my dd2 was perfect, and I'm sure your dc will be too.

Thanks Katey Jane and Vanloadtovenice. I had 2 good nights sleep when I got put on the tablets but now I'm back to not sleeping due to the itching. I was at the hospital yesturday everything was ok but my bloods are still going up instead of down I have a scan on Thursday so hopeully they can tell me more then, but up to now babys coming at 36 weeks.
