My sister has been rushed into hospital at 20 weeks and is having her appendix out tonight! I am so worried will she and the baby be ok???? I only spoke to my brother in law for about 2 minutes and he didnt seem to know what was going on. I'm 7+3 and dont want to be worrying my head off cause it wont be good for me and my bean either!

Not happened to me but my mother in law had this 34 years ago and everything was fine. And my brother in law (the baby in question) is a now a very healthy man! Hope your sis is ok,

my friend recently had her appendix out mid pregnancy, all is fine.... try not to worry.

I'm not a HCP but I reckon your sister and her baby will be fine. In my last job I typed notes dictated by surgeons post-surgery. This was in an ordinary, medium-sized hospital. Every single day there were appendicectomies. Some of those cases involved pregnant women, but there never was any indication in the post-surgical notes that pregnancy was a cause for concern.

The surgeons might choose not to do the operation laparoscopically but instead use a small incision in the lower right abdomen above the appendix.

These days most patients are out in 24 hours or less but they might choose to keep your sister in for a couple of days, just to ensure that everything settles down again.

Best wishes to you and your sister and your beans. It is scary when someone has to go to hospital urgently, but appendicectomies are very common and surgeons are very familiar with this surgical procedure.

That is a scary way of finding out what was happening - but things can sometimes move so fast and then it's not always possible to keep people in the loop.

Please let us know how things work out. That could be helpful for other people who are also facing the same scary situation.

I will keep you posted on the situation apparently she is just getting ready to go down to theatre so I guess I probably wont hear anything until tomorrow. I hope everything goes ok.
