How often do you think they get sex scans wrong ?

At our 20 week scan they told me I was having a boy and pointed out a winkie.
Hubs is not convinced that we should sell all DD3 aged 5's clothes and bit and bobs as we may need them, he saw the winkie too.
Now I know I will not be keeping much for 5 years even if the scan is wrong, but there are some beautiful, special dresses which I know would sell well on ebay/here and we do need the space and money.
So just wondering if in peoples experiences are they generally right ?

Not too sure on the numbers, but when i was in hospital with DD, two mums there had a suprise, both had girls that they were told were boys!!!!!

i know lots of people who had 20 wk scans and had what they said , but maybe sometimes they do get the sex wrong they told me mine was a boy and they was spot on think mine was 98%

we had some friends who had two boys.....and were told at the scan that their third would be an other boy ......she said no i dont want an other boy - you have that wrong - I ordered a girl ....and low and behold it was a little girl.....called Bea...there you go.

I know of two people who were told they were having girls at the 20wk scan. Both turned out to be boys.

someone on our june thread was told she was having a boy on two seperate scan occasions, she had a girl and was very shocked!

why not just keep until after the baby is born just in case, and then sell then. its very probable the scan is right but would be annoying to get rid of it all and then the scan be wrong!

gaelicsheep · 21/02/2010 20:56

I'm surprised to hear how many so-called boys have turned out to be girls. I thought it was generally the other way around tbh.

xxkt1xx · 21/02/2010 22:42

same here as little winkies can be hidden but to dissappear completely baffles me lol x

You could always sort and photograph the bits and pieces ready to put them up on ebay, but not actually do it until you know for sure. That way, you'll have done most of the work now and not have too much faff which you won't need with a newborn.

MumNWLondon · 22/02/2010 09:52

depends on when the scan is done, earlier on, both girls and boys have sticky out bits!

when I asked at 14 weeks if they could tell the sex they said they didn't like to say at this stage as girls bits stuck out as well then.

Random thought to self more than anything - but isnt it convenient there is such a difference in genital shape

MillyMollyMoo · 22/02/2010 17:21

Lol good idea Betty I think that's the worse bit out of the way then isn't it ? I had this lovely fantasy of a clear house in time for the new arrival but I think that might be asking a bit much of a few boxes of clothing anyway.

The scan was at 20 weeks, so they must be pretty sure to say one way or the other right ?
