Any tips on how to stop it, manage it? I am 23 weeks now and still suffering from morning sickness so spitting out spit only makes me heave!

HElp!

Hiya
i totally sympathise and empathise on this one! i have this too, usually in the evening. I'm only 10 weeks. I have read it's due to hormonal changes in pregnancy but i think it's also linked to the state of my stomach. If a lot of acid is being produced (which for me is pretty much all the time at the moment, and meant i started taking Omeprazole to control the acid reflux/indigestion) I get a lot of spit. you could try doing things which reduce the acidity of your stomach: eat very small amounts, often; no citrus fruit/acidic juices/caffeine; try antacids/gaviscon...

other than that I keep a cup or wad of tissue nearby and spit into it - sorry, i know it's gross, but whatever works, right??!

It's normal and hormonal, and it will go away.

eventually.

It sometimes can be caused d/t lowered swallowing that is undetected (and caused by pregnancy).

try drinking loads of fluids, especially sparkling mineral water.

My mum had this when she was expecting my brother. I remember her getting very pissed off with a doc who suggested it was all in her mind. She spent 9 months sucking Polo mints. It was the only way she could stomach swallowing so much spit, as I recall! Not sure what all the mints did for my bro?!

Oh, and it stopped the minute she'd given birth apparently.

Hope it doesn't last that long for you
