Hi what do you all use on your bumps? Mine is getting sore (35 weeks) its stretching so much, have been using various different things. Was thinking about trying bio oil does it actually do anything for stretchmarks as it claims? thanks

i'm hoping it does cos thats what i'm using and its not exactly cheap! no stretchmarks yet but only 21 weeks so plenty of time yet!

pecanpie · 20/02/2010 19:35

You will either get stretchmarks or you won't... I used bio oil religiously throughout my pregnancy and as soon as the baby engaged, I still got big, fire like stretch marks all over my tum. Worth a try just incase with only 5 weeks to go!

treedelivery · 20/02/2010 19:45

no. Sorry!
You would be as well with a bottle of pharmacy grade olice oil, at about £1.50 for 200mls.

I went through bottles and bottles of Bio-oil and I look like the london underground.

treedelivery · 20/02/2010 19:46

olive oil.

JustAnotherManicMummy · 20/02/2010 19:48

no

treedelivery · 20/02/2010 19:50

Imagine if it did. It would cost £1000 a ml. I'd probably pay it too

PuzzleRocks · 20/02/2010 19:55

I don't have any stretchmarks after two babies but I used bio oil from about 12 weeks.
I'd obviously say it does work but I think you need to start early. Genetics are also a big factor.

countryhousehotel · 20/02/2010 19:57

i used it first time, no stretchmarks. Used it second time, loads of stretchmarks.

treedelivery · 20/02/2010 20:15

I used it from 6 weeks

LEMONADEGIRL · 20/02/2010 20:16

have used it in both pregnancies and so far have no strech marks ( am 37 weeks at moment) I am also 5ft tall and am huge DH is 6ft so think it has helped me. I started using it both times from about 10 weeks.

PuzzleRocks · 20/02/2010 20:19

Shit Tree really? I have been swearing by it to friends and family members who are currently pregnant.

treedelivery · 20/02/2010 20:26

I think it has some proven avilities to fade out scars. I think though, that with all these things that if they worked they would be more than we could afford!

PuzzleRocks · 20/02/2010 20:31

Like bust firming cream. I would sell soul for some that worked.

MumNWLondon · 20/02/2010 20:31

sorry i don't think anything works. i have no stretchmarks (now 31 weeks with dc3) - just used palmers or avent oil in each pregnancy and didn't always remember to use it, and def didn't use anything until 20 weeks - my sister and sister in law both tried everything (including bio oil and v expensive creams) and applied religiously and are both terribly scarred - i thought my sister's stretch were terrible (consultant told her worst he'd ever seen) but SIL's are worse!

PuzzleRocks · 20/02/2010 20:32

my soul

No plans to release a record.

BelleDameSansMerci · 20/02/2010 20:34

I too thought Bio Oil worked... I was 42 and not exactly fit when I had DD (I was previously firm although not through any effort) and I have no stretch marks from pregnancy at all. My mum has loads and I had some already on my thighs from losing/gaining weight (not even very much weight either). I have none from pregnancy though...

MumNWLondon · 20/02/2010 20:43

i think one of the reasons that i do not get stretchmarks is that i carry quite neat - (partly due to good stomach muscles....) by contrast both sister and SIL were HUGE.

i have some on my breasts though from their huge expansion in days after DD was born...

nappyaddict · 20/02/2010 20:44

I had a few from early on when I didn't apply anything to my bump. Since the first ones appeared I religiously applied a few different things and didn't get any more. They were:

Biotherm anti-stretchmark gel
Emu, Lavender, vitamin a, rosehip, borage, wheatgerm and jojoba oils combined with aloe vera gel to make it less greasy
Botanics serum
The Sanctuary mum to be stuff
Neal's yard mother's balm
Shea butter
Boots mediterranean pregnancy body butter
Waitrose bottom butter

Rosehip oil and Palmer's scar serum have also been really good at fading the ones I did have.

sanfairyann · 20/02/2010 20:47

if they are claiming it prevents stretchmarks, could you report them to the asa pls as it doesn't

GoldenSnitch · 20/02/2010 20:49

no

AllieW · 21/02/2010 11:23

It's a genetic thing, I'm convinced. I used nothing with my last pregnancy and I have no stretchmarks whatsoever. (I DO have a few odd little brown circle things on my lower chest and upper bit of my tummy which refuse to disappear, but no amount of cream will do anything for them.)

PeasPlease · 21/02/2010 15:34

Have used it day and night in both pregnancies.

First one, no marks.

Second one, stretch marks all over the bump from 28 weeks (twins).

SixtyFootDoll · 21/02/2010 15:38

I usd Body Shop olive oil body butter throughout both my pgs and have hardly any stretch marks

Mimile · 21/02/2010 15:41

used it twice a day from week 4 - only put on a stone during entire pregnancy, but at week 38, big reddish and terribly itchy stretch marks appeared. As preg lasted 42 weeks, it only got worst too!
Not sure I would bother next time.

nappyaddict · 21/02/2010 15:54

Oh I also used Body Shop Coconut Body Butter.
