I'm 5'9 and slim but muscular. I started out at 9st 11 and now at 27 weeks I'm 11st 4. IS this average? Over? I'm not concerned but it's bugging me a little as people always go on and on about size, making me wonder too! There's so much conflicting advice online and the two women I've spoken to Mum (says over a stone is too much in total) and friend (gained 3.5 stone, reckons is normal and looks great one yr on) have conflciting opinions. Is there a normal range? Being taller than average would it affect gain slighly? I've gained the most in the last 4 weeks, but overall it's been pretty steady. I'm not feeling particularly big in the body, a little extra but just like a little xmas weight but bump is MASSIVE, closely followed by breasts. Bum a little more solid, as is back, but not flabby. I exercise a fair it, yoga and walking with dvd few times a week and apart from pelvic pain feel quite fit. Pelvis wasn't funny yesterday and comfortably walked 2miles then ran for a train at the end. Mum and Dad though talk like I'm stuffing myself for England (I'm eating more than usual but not eating badly, healthy food, just quite a lot). Who's right?

I'm 17 weeks and have gained 8lbs so far and feel that's pretty normal. Still a size 10 if that's any help. I'm 5' 5"

strawberry kate- I am same height as you, was same weight pre-pregnancy as you and am now around the same weight as you at 25 weeks so I dont think you have anything to worry about! My midwife reckons 2 and a half stone is average, but everyone is different and you just have to go with the flow a bit!

I really struggled with the feeling of gaining weight in my first pregnancy and fretted constantly about it... and then felt guilty about fretting about it (...as long as the baby's healthy etc etc) but after year it was all gone anyway.

My advice would be to try not to think about it... enjoy your bump - you might not always feel it but to everyone else you look radiant!!

good question. the nhs website say anything between 25-35lbs throughout the pregnancy is "healthy" but most of us that sounds like a very scary amount of pounds to put in and how the heck are we supposed to get the weight off afterwards.

i'm 5.5, weighed 9st 9lbs pre pregnancy. now 25 weeks and have put on 10lbs so far. most of the weight since week 18 - around 2lbs on average a week which I find very alarming.

I put on total of 12lbs with first pregnancy so astonished why this time the weight gain is so high. did lots of power walking with first pregnancy but this time it's been far too cold to venture out and my energy levels generally much lower - must be age.

like you my belly and breast are very large indeed....

I have done this on average in a week:

1 1/2 Yoga
2 or 3 times Davina DVD
Long or fast walk every other day (min 30 min)

I haven't eaten that much, to be honest probably just eating the calories I used to drink. I guess I'm surprised that I've gained so much! About 5-6lb in the last 2.5 weeks. I'm starting to wonder if maybe there's quite a bit of fluid being retained, my drinking is way up but toilet trips are fewer and fewer. I'm not really swollen, but puffy all over a little bit. I'm pretty energetic and fit, walked 4 miles round the other day and surprised friends.

Well I'm worrying at the other end - I'm 13+4 and have only put on 2 lbs so far, and even that last lb keeps fluctuating downwards again.

I am eating loads though, and although I am still exercising, not to the same intensity as I was pre pregnancy.

Normally I pile on weight easily so it has surprised me as I assumed I would add a stone in the first trimester!

I have certainly increased in size in my boobs and have a more rounded waist but I can't see how this can be if I haven't really gained any meaningful weight yet.

strawberrykate · 18/02/2010 23:04

Ozzie-beware, I'd gained only 2-3lb at that point!

I do expect to start piling it on at some point!

At least you're tall - I"m only 5 ft 4 so will clearly turn into a weeble in the not too distant future....

I have been weighed once at my booking in appointment, I have no idea what I weigh!!!

Don't worry about it if you are eating healthily and exercising!
