This is baby number 2. I am now 40 weeks +3.

Last baby came at 36 weeks, FAST labour, no problmes. Bit shocked how long this pregnancy has lasted.

DH self employed, been offered fab project on the Isle of Wight but needs to be over their next week to get things started, so would take about 3-4 ours to get to hospital. He would miss the birth I think! Need to get childcare sorted for toddler too.

So, after 2 sweeps and nothing happening, Midwife said today to come over to hospital later and she will do another sweep. I was 4cm on Monday, waters buldging etc. What are the chances she might "accidently" break my waters and get this thing moving??? Or AIBU??

I don't know about accidentally breaking your waters but when I had DS1 [to cut a long story short] on a Wednesday (day 4 after due date) I was given a sweep where they saw I was 1-2cm dilated then two days later (Friday am) went into hospital for induction (had slightly high BP). Got given prostin gel twice and on my 3rd go (Sunday pm - day 3) they decided to break my waters cos I was 4cm dilated by then (had a very stop - start labour during those days). They were surprised I was that far gone as I'd had very little pains requiring only paracetamol and codeine tablet the night before so the breaking of my waters was enough to kick start labour proper. And my god did it start from then . . . strong contractions within 20 minutes and it took about 5 hours from that point (roughly).

So in my experience, the sweep and prostin did very little but breaking my waters was the last straw for my body as it were..

Hope this helps
