How to not be so worried?

Hello there
I am new to this board. I have a 3 year old and we had been ttc No 2 for a while last year. Then I got a bfp between Xmas and NY and was thrilled. 2 weeks later I started miscarrying on the 12th Jan. Decided to keep ttc and amazingly, got a bfp again before my 1st period.

So, to cut a long story short, I am pregnant again, but just can not relax as I am just fearing the worst will happen again. I have 2 friends who had successful pregnancies straight after a mc, but I am just really worried that I have developed a problem since having my son which is going to result in more mc's. Help me with some good stories, stats, anything, please!

I had almodt exactly the same experience as you. My dd is 2 and I had a mc at 6 weeks. I'm now 21 weeks with baby no.2.

I've spoken to lots of friends with two children, and most of them are generally more scared of everything the second time around.

It is only natural to be worried, especially after a mc. And they are quite common very early on.

You do have the advantage of knowing that you can produce a healthy child to get you through those early weeks. Some couples have multiple mcs before having a baby and they must wonder if it will ever happen.

You, however, know you can do it and will do it again most likely. There is nothing in what you post to suggest you have develpoed a problem since having your son. It seems you get pregnant pretty easily too, so you have everything to feel confident about.

Hi- hard not to worry isn't it? I felt the same way and found it hard to relax until 12 weeks..... I was preg after the first period afer mc and just could not enjoy it.... DC2 is now 2 weeks away from due date . So it was all fine. Wishing you good vibes

Thanks LaTrucha,
Yes, I know you are right. It is weird about getting pg - we had been ttc for about 5 months and nothing happened. But I had gallstones (from the first pregnancy!) and was trying to manage it by diet/lifestyle. Anyhow I couldn't, ended up in hospital with pancreatitis, then had gallbladder removed in Nov. After the op, we decided not to ttc for a while, but I got pg anyway. Then straight after mc. It's like my body did not want to get pg because of the pain, etc of gallstones. Anyway, I digress.

I am sorry to hear you had mc too, but that's great you are now 21 weeks - have you had any bleeding or anything with this one? And are you now relaxed? (as much as you can be).

I haven't had any bleeding - a tiny bit of spotting, that's all.

I do worry more than before but I think that's partly quite common and partly because I had an utterly miserable pregnancy and scary birth last time. Everything is going so well so far this time that in the back of my head I'm wondering what is going to be bad this time (still vomiting at 21 weeks but taking that in my stride as much as I can!)

But I really believed in the baby from the very first second I thought I was pregnant. I truly believe he'll be here soon! When I had the mc it felt all very wrong from the very start.

So, no. I don't spend a lot of time worrying about it but when things come up like the 20 week scan I get pretty edgy. All was fine and I was just so relieved. I've got extra scan and things this time, so hopefully I'll find that reassuring too.

Part of me too, can't believe how lucky I am in my lovely DD and can't believe I'm going to get to have another baby, but it looks like it!

Hi DomesticG0ddess

first of all congratulations on your pregnancy.
I'm currently in the same situation 9kind of) being that I m/c in September and got a bfp in November.
So as it stands I'll be 17wks tomorrow into what I hope will be a smooth un-complicated pregnancy.

The worry doesn't stop - in the first 12 weeks (and even now at times) I was always knicker-checking, any smears of pink/red/brown and I was straight on the phone to EPU and had an early scan at 6wks that showed a happy bean and it's heartbeat

Have had my 12wk scan since and up to now eveything fine, minimal sickness but lots of nausea! But all normal thank goodness. have my 20wk scan in 3 weeks and fingers firmly corssed and already have knots in my stomach about it - it's another milestone after all

Best of luck with your pregnancy, I think the best thing to do which worked for me is to just take it a week at a time. My m/c was at 6wks so I counted that as the first milestone, then looked forward to getting past 7, then 8....and so on.

Hope this has helped a little

*crossed can't type/spell!!

DomesticG0ddess · 17/02/2010 18:14

Thanks guys, yes it does help me. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancies. I too see the first milestone as getting past 7 weeks.

Fingers crossed we all have little miracles by the end of 2010!

X
