Get an appointment with your midwife and get them to check for a foetal heartbeat. If theyre worried about your size theyll refer you for a scan.

I don't think it's unusual not to feel movement in your first pregnancy until 20 weeks or so. Also, you may not recognise what you are feeling because it's often just a very gentle flutter at first.

Bump size can be very variable as well, depending on position or the state of your stomach muscles.

However, I would agree that you should phone the midwife if you are worried because it never does any harm to get things checked out and hopefully put your mind at rest.

In my first pregnancy I was 22 weeksish before I felt DD move and didn't have a bump unitl nearly 32weeks. Second time I have had a bump since 15 weeks and felt the baby since 16 weeks. Your tummy muscles still have some control at this stage in a first pregnancy.

I have my 20 week scan a week on friday but Im going to phone day care assessment tomoro. Do you think theyll even bother bringing me in though if they know I have a scan nxt week? x

My sister looked so un-pregnant, even at about 35 weeks, that friends who weren't close friends daren't talk to her about her pregnancy because they were worried she had miscarried at some point and they would put their foot in it. She was most annoyed not to have a bump, and envied me my huge bowling ball.

I would ask the midwife to fit you in for a check up just to reassure yourself though.

Don't worry about it too much...

re: bump: I didn't look pregnant with any my first until around 28 weeks. At 7.5 months I was doing a handover at work as I was "going to be out of the office for 6 months" and I was asked if "i was going travelling!" - I think for a first normal not to show until after 20 weeks.

re: movements: this time I have an anterior placenta (ie its at the front) - and I didn't feel anything at all until around 22 weeks (this is DC3).

if you have scan on friday anyway then just hold out until then.

even though this is DC3 at 19 weeks I also neither had a bump nor had felt any movements. its normal.

Boobz · 16/02/2010 20:05

I didn't feel anything until 21+4, and even then it might have been wind! Was looking for something to feel, so might have been phantom movements if you see what I mean. Felt proper movements from 23 weeks.

Had a bump from about 20 weeks, but nothing that looked pregnant, so sounds the same as you.

I would wait for scan on Friday.

Summerhols · 16/02/2010 20:21

Hi

I am 22+6 and only started to feel flutters at about 20 weeks.

If I wear clothes that are not tight people do not realise that I am pregnant, and it has only been the last week or so that people have started to notice my bump.

So sounds normal to me!!!!

del1 · 16/02/2010 20:38

I wouldn't worry at all, with my first, I didn't show untill after 6 months. I didn't feel any movement untill about 22 weeks. Even then I was unsure, as couldn't decide if it was wind or not?
I think if you have good stomach muscles, then you don't show as much. Others say that everyone carries differently?
I am now 5 months with 2nd, and had a bump at about 14 weeks, and an now massive already!!!

starshaker · 16/02/2010 20:40

I felt my dd move the day i went for my 20 week scan lol. Dont panic but if your worried go and see your midwife

Heated · 16/02/2010 20:42

Pls don't worry, I didn't show or feel my first until 25 weeks (a standard size 12 and average height) - got to within weeks of mat leave before most of my work colleagues noticed I was pg.

Wanderingsheep · 16/02/2010 20:53

Don't worry, I didn't feel any movement until 21 weeks with DD!

Don't worry about not showing either. All pregnancy bumps grow at different rates and as it's your first pregnancy your stomach muscles will be pretty strong which means it will take longer for a bump to appear!

Congratulations on your pregnancy, hope the rest of it goes well.

Wanderingsheep · 16/02/2010 20:59

Ooh, meant to add that at my 22 week AN appt the midwife was surprised that I had felt movement at that stage, so it must be pretty common to not have felt any movement by then.

Sappholit · 16/02/2010 21:17

Really don't worry. I felt movements at around 21 weeks and had no bump for ages. I'm now 39 weeks and having a c-section on Friday - still have a tiny bump. I look five/six months' pregnant, not nine. I have done nothing but worry about this, but the scans are showing baby as having good, consistent growth, placenta is in full working order, so should all be fine. It will be my first question when they pull her out, though: 'Is she a dwarf?'

Biw · 17/02/2010 19:30

Hi
Chill out. You're most likely one of those annoying ladies with a neat pregnancy and good digestive health! I didn't feel any foetal movements until my 21 wks with my first pregnancy and my bump was tiny. 2nd pregnancy completely different - felt movement around 18 weeks and so bloated all the time someone asked me if I was having TWINS!
If you're still worried just pop into your GPs and have them listen to baby's heartbeat.
Best wishes

PanicMode · 17/02/2010 19:44

I didn't feel my first baby until about 19 weeks or so, and I have had growth scans with all four pregnancies because I measure small and usually have a very small bump. I was in the supermarket on my due date with DD and the cashier couldn't believe that I wasn't only 20 weeks pg! I am now 30 weeks pg with number 4 and am measuring 24 weeks - I like to think it's due to my excellent stomach muscles

Don't worry, you'll get a bump soon enough - and then you'll be moaning 'cos you can't sleep on your front or get comfy at night etc!

first1 · 17/02/2010 19:56

I'm 27 weeks with my first and last week got sent by my GP for a growth scan because "you only look about 20 weeks" (queue immense panic about bump size!) Turns out I just carry a small football style bump. I felt first flutters around 18weeks but not hefty kicks until about 22 weeks. Don't worry we're all different

Wanderingsheep · 17/02/2010 20:01

It may also be likely that you have felt the baby move but dismissed it as wind etc, as that's what it feels like at first!
