I have heard that eating fresh pineapple can bring on labour - does anyone know if this is true or just a myth? If there is some truth in it, is it a food that pregnant women should avoid apart from in the last fews weeks? I wonder if canned pineapple is also a possibility?
I love fresh fruit salad but am wary of touching it until I know how risky it is!! Thanks for any ideas.

Same here Emsgale, I had ds at 40+2 a few hours after eating a whole one so was convinced it worked but having eaten 4 in the last week I've changed my mind!

I was a week overdue and fed up. I ate THREE whole pineapples in a row. I went into labour that night.

I have never been able to enjoy pineapple since.

they eat pineapple in India throughout their pregnancies I was told by friend who grew up there...

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 12/04/2012 21:40

It's all lies!!!

After my due date past I was eating 3 ( yes, 3) pineapples a day.

I went 12 days overdue before ds2 decided he wanted to come out.

They come when they're good and ready. And after trying every trick in the book last time I will never change my mind on the fact that they come out when is best for them.

Good luck!

I ate several pineapples in the days post due date, but never felt that they had any effect at all. Thought i do love pineapple, so not exactly a challenge.

The night after a hot jalfrezi from the local curry house, i felt some action (much to my relief at 40+9), and my little lady was on her way the next day. I do feel the curry had a good effect on warming up the system and encouraging her to make an appearance, but hard to day for sure of course!

Absolute bullcack

The amount of pineapple that u have to eat is daft. And u have to eat the skin and leaves too

Baby will come when ready

ChineapplePunk · 13/04/2012 12:43

In my view it's utter bollocks. The overwhelming majority of people who say that eating fresh pineapple brought on their labour are "coincidentally" within the 37-42 week window anyway.

Now, what's the most likely factor that will aid the onset of labour? Being classified as full-term or eating a pineapple? Grin

when I go into labour I'm hoping to be doing some housework so can therefore avoid said housework in any future pregnancies just in case it brings on labour :)
