Had my 40 week check up yesterday, third baby, so first check up in 4 weeks. And obviously,I might give birth any day!

This was with the Doc rather than the midwife.

He checked my bloodpreassure and my urine (which turned out to have glucose and also an infection, would have been good have had that detected before the week youre about to give birth, arrrgh!!)

He didn't check the baby's heartbeat (another doctor had taken the doppler with them...), he didn't feel the baby or check its position, if it's head down, he didn't check fundus measurement. All things you kind of whant to know in order to feel ready and prepared to give birth, especially snce it hasn't been checked in the last 4 weeks!

Just having a moan... think I should call the midwife and talk through it or just let it go?

Did you ask all those things?

Why did you see the GP? I'd rather see a mw any day

Definitely speak to the midwife. You need to feel confident that everything is in order. No wonder you are cross!

LittleSilver · 16/02/2010 13:38

yes, sorry get app with mw asap.

Another vote for speaking to the MW and asking her to do your checks.

BellasYummyMummy · 16/02/2010 15:08

go see the MW, thats rubbish with the doc! im appalled!

joymaker · 16/02/2010 15:43

I would definately get these things clarified asap - even if everything is okay in their opinion they should have communicated this to you, the last thing you need is to have your confidence undermined just before the birth. All the best

I would call MW ASAP to discuss.

re: urine infection I had this right at end but drank loads of water and flushed it out - had another test a couple of days later (in the hospital) and it was fine.

re: glucose not much you can do about it now anyway, maybe avoid sugary foods?

am surprised you haven't been seen for 4 weeks though - although the number of appointments I'm to have to is pretty minimal, its 2 weekly from 34 weeks (also DC3)

fair enough re: heartbeat (providing you are having lots of movement) but appalling re: not checking babies position.
