oh yes i have this (have had it for WEEKS!) hurts mostly after i've peed. i find aloe vera gel works really well, very soothing. Also my friend suggested getting witch hazel and putting some on a sanitary pad and thats also very soothing. Try not to stand too much during the day as that puts pressure on the area which you will feel later on in the evening.

Ouch! I've had this as well for what seems like forever. No advice but glad to hear am not the only one!
I also get the feeling that I'm going to lose my internal bits every time a go to the loo! Not nice.
Midwife says it could be varicose veins in my vagina but I'm not sure as it does seem to be an "outer bits" pain - if you see what I mean!

yes seems to be outer area ache n throb!! I know u get extra blood flow to that area so prob related to that!! afta 1st pregnancy i remember a familar dull dragging ache wen i was stood for long periods so might not be going too soon mite have to bear with it a while longer yet!!! Oh the joys!! xx

Could be SPD although I hope for your sake its not !

KayloHalo · 13/02/2010 15:47

Sounds a lot like Symphesis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) - talk to your midwife as she may be able to refer you for physio where they can give you a support belt.

Does it also hurt when walking up/down stairs? It did for me and thats how my MW knew it was SPD.

Hope this helps!!!

I've had exactlty what you're describing with this third preg - no issues before with the other two. I've been to Dr and had it confirmed that I have vulval variscosities which is basically varicous veins (or piles) in your fanjo - about 5-10% of people get it in pregnancy.

There is no cure for it except for delivery. Had sex and could basically not stand afterwards as it was so painful. I've also had some SPD and I think it's kind of got mixed up with that. An independant midwife told me that some people like cold grated potato for relief i.e. pack your knickers with it. I tried it but as I was also suffering from thursh (so you can see I'm having major fanjo issues - my hubby won't go near me just now!!) it was just really uncomfortable and stained my knickers grey. I won't be bothering with that again. Good luck - if it's any consolation mine has relived slightly in the last few weeks...

I saw someone suggesting putting sanitary pads in the freezer for a bit if you're brave. (Or did I dream it?)

I get this on & off too - sont know if its SPD but if you follow some of the guidelines for this it helps. Sit down to put your shoes/knickers/trousers on - try to avoid standing on one leg if possible. Keep knees together when turning over/getting out of bed. The worse things are hoovering & pushing a trolley so try to avoid this if possible and get more rest!!
