Spotting (14+6)

Ok so last Friday (13+6) I had a load of muscular pain (definately not cramping) and very slight spotting.... I went to Doctor who wasn't too concerned and basically said bleeding is quite normal, but said it sounded like I was doing too much.

I've done literally nothing physical since, and this morning (14+6) I've got more spotting, more blood than last Friday too. Seeing Doctor at 10, and im sure I'm probably over-reacting and I'll get a simular reaction to last week.

But cuz its the 2nd lot of bleeding in just over a week now I'm getting myself all worked up. Stupidly read the part of the babybook on bleeding after 12 weeks and its saying stuff like possible reasons could include mother blood being rhes neg and developing anti-bodies (which mine is), or a list of possible problems with the placenta.

God I want a scan to reassure everything is fine.... how quickly could I organise a private one if the Doc doesn't/won't send me in for one?

I don't know the answer to your question about the private scan but just to say to you that I bled regulalry right throughout my pregnancy and it was a pita but everything was fine in the end.

They didn't scan me again until after 20 weeks. I got the impression that they couldn't see what the placenta was doing anyway until after that. They did listen with the doppler and put the trace thing on me regulalrly though.

Phone the midwives now and speak to them about it.

I had a big bleed at 14+4 and thought I had lost the baby just days after last seeing it on the scan screen. I spoke to a -crap-- heartless GP who told me there was nothign I could do but go to bed. So I rang my MW and she referred me to the ante-natal clinic at the hospital who scanned me and the could find no obvious reason for the bleeding and ran some bloods for being rHneg and things and all was fine. It is very very frightening and don't be afraid to push your GP for a referral if you feel you need the reassurance.

Hope all is okay.

Private scan can often be organised for the same day but some private clinics still require a referral from your gp Where are you?

CazEM · 12/02/2010 09:40

Im in Newport South Wales. I rang the midwife first last Friday and she wasn't really very helpful, said that cuz it was past 12 weeks I had to go to gp and there was nothing she could do at the moment. So I haven't bothered ringing her today, just rang gp. It is by no means a big bleed, and I'm probably over-reacting but I'm so anxious! More so now cuz its the 2nd time a week apart. Just have to see what the gp says in half hour...

Now I've thought about it a bit more calmly my blood isnt an issue cuz DH is rhes neg too so the baby has to be neg too right?

I'm not sure about the rhneg.

If you feel you really want a scan there is a company called Babybond in St Mellons that does private scans - they start at about £80.

Hope all is going well at the docs.

I went to the day assessment unit after bleeding at 18 weeks. Phone them and ask if you can come in.

Hey thanks for the advice ladies, doctor was really nice and has booked me an appointment at the hospital for a scan on Monday. Doc still thinks its gunna be "one of those things" but feels its need checking out to be on the safe side. Been told to rest all weekend and if the bleeding gets heavier to go straight to A+E. Just gunna lie here on the sofa now and get DH to wait on me hand and foot all weekend!

I know its a bit late to reply but in case anyone else searches this topic, my reply is helpful. Im 14 weeks and have had spotting this week, I spoke to my midwife last night who said it's very common. She said to go to A & E if there is a lot of blood dripping (rather than spots) or if its fresh red blood rather than brown blood.

She also let me listen to the baby's heartbeat which was really reassuring.

I had a terrible incident at 12 weeks when I suddenly started to bleed lots of fresh red blood. I rang my GP who asked some questions and said it was over and there was nothing we can do. DH and I spent 2 days grieving as we thought I'd lost the baby. I went in for a scan and they found a heartbeat.

So my advice is dont just take your GPs word for it, go to hospital and get it checked out properly.

I hope my reply is helpful, rather.
