Anyone know anything about this?

At 18 wk scan this showed up but sonographer said it is an incidental finding as everything else OK. trouble is not seeing doc for 2 week so not sure if this raises concerns.

There are already issues with this pregnancy as am in my 40s and have declined amnio. Though the nuchal etc was fine and put my out of high risk - just.

I have googled and terrified myself of course. Some places it says it is of little consequence where there is no other soft marker but can't help being worried in the light of my other factors.

HI fiftot. This subject is how I found mumsnet 5 years ago! I was worried sick especially after googling!! Anyway dd was fine and is starting school in September, she is a petite wee thing but that is more to down to genes more than anything else. I worried all the way through my pregnancy and even had a 4D scan to reassure myself. I found it a bit difficult to bond with her, because I was so scared, but she was fine. Try and enjoy your pregnancy.

here is the orignal thread, if you're interested

Hey Fifi andanyone else with this daignosis that may be reading! I had my follow up scan after diagnosis 4 weeks agon & all looking good thank god!

Main concern had been growth but our little beauty is right at the end of the growth scale, 95th percentile, (just over on some points!) & big & strong! She is about 2lb 6oz already! They checked her heart & kidneys again, & reassured that they are definitely looking healthy & strong, and wont suddenly develop a problem now, as if the 2 vessel cord would affect them, it would of happened already!

They will keep checking and next scan is in 4 weeks, but also reassured me that in most cases, as our consultant said, this is just a 'variation of normal'. She also said that the horror stories on the net, generally do come from USA, and in most cases where no congenital abnormality is detected at scans, the outcome is fine! Im not breathing a complete sigh of relief til she is here in our arms, but I am definately more reassured than I was when it was first detected!

Thanks for the update. I have a scan in about 5 weeks so will see what they say.

Fifi how did things go in the end? Hope your little one is ok? Thought id update for you or anyone else thats been concerned about 2 vessel cord - my lovely Dd was born on 26th May at a healthy 9lb 5oz so all that concern about her weight being affected wasnt needed! I had growth scans every 2wks & by 30wks it was apparent she was on the large side! Due to this they gave her a v detailed fetal cardio heart scan about 34wks which showed her heart was fine, thank god! The scans also checked her kidneys & again all was well! As she was big i was induced at 38wks, long labour, forceps and episiotomy but worth every second! Turns out she was very long rather than porky! Think i mentioned that prior to this id sadly had 4 recurrent miscarriges so my Dd is the most loved precious little girl & was obviously v worrying when we first heard she had a 2 vessel cord, so i hope this reassures anyone else with the same diagnosis that it can end up just fine!

Thanks for asking. Just seen your post and glad everything OK.

I too had growth scans and there was no problem so eventually 'signed off' consultant care. DS born and was nearly 8 lb so not a bad weight. Touchwood everything OK.

It WAS a worry throughout pregnancy though.

Ah so glad to hear your DS is ok too Fifi! Grin Yep it was a massive worry at diagnosis, i sobbed and sobbed that night and scared myself to pieces over googling! However as so many midwifes & sonographers said, its actually quite common, & only recently picked up in scans, obviously theres risks, but i hope our stories can reassure anyone else freaking out with same diagnosis, that it can often, thank god, work out ok! Grin
