i prob like many others, find it hard to keep in control of my weight, i put on a good 3 st with my first and it took me 18months to get back to my pre preg weight,
i am hoping to keep bit more of a handle on it this time (i had spd last time which i think was alot to do with my weight)

i am size 14, 13 st and 5 ft 6.. what do u think is a reasonable weight gain? it says on net between 15-20 lb! that seems very low? obviously that would be great but is it realistic??

how much weight did u all put on during preg and how long did it take u to loose it!??

pls save all those dont worry about ur weight and u should think of big healthy baby messages. i am not dieting, just trying to have a healthy preg and baby and aviod spd so i can be a good mummmy to my toddler.

3 st first time, 2 st second time, however end weight was the same both times because I weighed a stone more second time to start with.

I am usually very good at controlling my weight, but instinct took over in pregnancy. I am usually 9 stone 4 lbs. You body is programed to build up fat stores for bfeeding, but you do have to try to have some control, unless you dont mind getting really heavier.

sophieandbelly - will watch with interest - I am in same position as you - terrified of putting too much weight on this time around - I had terrible back problems last pregnancy which I'm sure was exacerbated by all the excess weight (was a twin pregnancy and I gained around 4 and a half stone). This time I am nearly 2 stone heavier to start with - never did manage to lose all the "baby weight" - and being newly preg means that I can't take my anti-inflammatories for my back (slipped disc). So I'm just really worried taht if I gain lots of weight I'll be practically immobile again in a few months time...

I am trying to just eat normally but exercise a bit more - gently - to try and keep things in check. Last time I think I was too relaxed about eating whatever i felt like and too unfit due to laziness back problems. Swimming is pretty good exercise when pregnant - I really must start going again.

wow bellabelly twins and preg u must be tired!! how old r the twins? is it just one baby this time (u will find one baby a breeze after two iam sure!!)

i to have been thinking about exercise maybe pre natal yoga or swimming, altho i think cant start the yoga untill 14 weeks, i i remember rightly.

i finnished work at 28 weeks with my first (because of spd) was pretty much sofa bound with choc crossiants and choc buttons keeping me hostage!

eggontoast did u find being slim to start u popped back into shape?

I'm absolutely sure you don't want to know this... I am 40 weeks this week.... and have gained 26 lbs. Haven't done a stitch of exercise either. Morning sickness helped though!

sophieandbelly · 04/02/2010 10:43

I've put on about 10.5 kg (around 22lbs) so far - am currently 32 weeks. I've been trying not to eat more than normal really, and snacked on fruit and low-fat yogurts in the early stages... I was fairly heavy (77kg) before I started, but was only a size 12 and am about 1m75 tall.

2babesmum · 04/02/2010 12:00

I'm 15 weeks and have gained 8lbs so far. I'm hoping this isn't a great deal but seems to be considering that there's a fair few weeks to go yet and I started as a neat size 10. 3rd pg and didn't gain a great deal at all first 2 times so I'm a little worried

mrscrocoduck · 04/02/2010 12:45

i gained 4 stone with first baby. Went from 10 st 7 (am 5ft 8) to 14.7 st!!!! And people kept telling me i had a neat bump. Wasn't sure where it was all going until LO came out and I was left with giant flabby belly!!!

Worried the same's happening now too and i started at 11st 4lbs so I'm going to be HUGE this time round. Especially afterwards!

Longtalljosie · 04/02/2010 12:55

I only gained two and a half stone in my pregnancy and also had terrible back problems. Sometimes your back just isn't up to the job...

Neeko · 04/02/2010 13:29

I gained 4 stone last time and never lost it all. I'm 33 weeks and have so far gained 25lbs. Hoping to gain no more than a further half stone now and lose the baby weight within first few months (then tackle the extra weight from last time.) Working full time whilst having a 3 year old and all the other stresses of family life has certainly helped. Good luck.

colie · 04/02/2010 13:47

My first I was too skinny 8 and a half stone 5ft 7inch. I put on 2 stone and lost it within a couple of months.
Second was about 9 stone and went up to 12 and a half. Had terrible spd too.
Third baby exactly same as second with agonising spd.
Fourth pregnancy I was the same weight again and am now 21 weeks but the spd honestly started at about 10 weeks. At that point I had such terrible morning sickness that I was well under 9 stone.

I am not sure if weight does exacerabe the spd as a friend of mine also had spd and she is very slim and stayed slim throughout her pregnancies.

I give in to too many treats when pregnant and lose all self control. Once baby comes out though I usually find some sort of control as I am desperate for my body back and to get into my normal clothes again!! It has usually taken me about 6 weeks to get back to my pre pregnancy weight.

bellabelly · 04/02/2010 18:31

colie - 6 weeks! I am and a bit inspired by that. Not envious of your spd though, I was lucky enough not to have that last pregnancy, hope it's the same this time.

Bumperlicious · 04/02/2010 18:57

Watching with interest as I don't want to put on too much weight this time, problem is, like last time, eating every two hours is the only was to keep my current nausea at bay!

eggontoast · 04/02/2010 19:19

maybe being slim helped to lose the excess weight after, because I went back to eating the same foods/portion sizes after babe was born that I ate before I was pregnant and with bf and running round after baby, weight fell off with out any effort(sorry).

Also, by 9 months, when babe weaned during day, I mountain bike and biked to work and back so you can basically eat what you want! Thats why I crept back up to 10 stone before I conceived 2nd time, I stopped biking as extreme exercise and low body fat can impede fertility.

Now baby is 9wks old and I have lost 1st and 1/2 (not dieting at all). Only exercise dog walking. Only 1 and 1/2 to go to get to target 9st although, I dont expect to reach that until baby is over 1 year old and I can do lots of exercise because at present, far too much to do in house!
