hi,
iv booked a private gender scan which il be having next week. in the confirmation email there was a note saying for me to bring my maternity notes which isnt a problem but i dont want them to put the scan on my records as my mum is coming with me for my nhs anomaly scan and i dont want her to know iv had a private scan coz she'll think iv wasted money and have a go which i really dont need. do they add anything to my notes or do they just use them as a ref?

any advice would be greatly appreciated xxx

I'm afraid I don't know the answer but I wonder if your mum will actually look through your notes.

Does she need to look through your notes?

Even if she does, it's your money, I presume, so you should be able to have a scan if you want to.

My mum would not know one end of a set of notes from the other but maybe your mum is more aware and taking a real interest in the pregnancy.

The notes I had from my private 12 week scan did not get added to my green notes; the midwife just looked at the relevant bits and then gave me them back. Especially with a gender scan, i can't see any reason why they would include the info on your notes, particularly if you explain to them that you want to keep them separate.
Good luck!

I was told to bring my notes to my private gender scan. The sonographer thanked me for bringing them, put them on the side and that was that! Nothing was written in them or added to them at all.

They do have a professional duty of care to inform your care giver (i.e. MW/consultant) if they spot any problems so maybe they ask for your notes just incase that arises, otherwise they don't do anything with them if all is fine.

I went with BabyBond if that's any help to you.

Good luck btw, I found it an amazing experience

I had the same experience as IckleJess.

Ive had a few private scans at different clinics and have never had them add anything to my notes. I have been given copies of reports to add to my notes if I wish nthin else.

thanks everyone...its Babybond I'm going to as well - not worried about my mum looking at my notes dont think she'd do that just them mentioning at the scan that i already know the gender or something but it's obv something i dont need to worry about. thank you for your replies xx
