Hello girls.
I'm 41 weeks and am running out of ideas! Having sex, tried evening primrose oil, eaten pineapple, had reflexology, had 2 sweeps, had curry (which gave me rotten upset tummy) and go for fast waddles.. have been getting really strong braxton hicks for about 3 weeks, and had a show over a week ago...
have we missed any good methods to naturally induce?
i'm booked in for an induction this weekend which i want to try and avoid at all costs :-(

Clary Sage? Don't have experience of it yet myself but am nearly 37 weeks with DC1 and have a bottle tucked away just in case! If you do a google or search for threads on here it's mentioned on ways to use it (e.g. burner, compress, bath, massage etc).

Good luck!

A couple of friends of mine had acupuncture and went into labour the same day... worth a go maybe?

pandora69 · 03/02/2010 08:50

Apparently the sex has to be quite frequent to get sufficient prostaglandins into you. Tell OH lots of sex got you into this state, now you need lots to get you out of it . I was also told by a midwife friend of mine that an even more efficient way of getting enough prostaglandins into you quickly is oral sex, with, ahem, everything swallowed. Enough to make one gag normally, I know, but worth a try in a desperate hour?

ohmeohmy · 03/02/2010 09:33

Lots of french kissing, second clary sage massaged into bump. Relax, visualise cervix opening, talk to baby and tell him/her it's time.

bounty007 · 03/02/2010 09:37

nipple stimulation is meant to work! MY DH tried last night (TMI ...sorry!) but it was too tickly for me

Feierabend · 03/02/2010 09:53

Just sit back and relax and enjoy the peace and quiet... would be my advice Good luck.

RLY · 03/02/2010 10:05

thank you girls for all the advice.. looks like sex and french kissing is on the agenda for later!

acupuncture / homeopathy?

visualisation....

lots of walking... (both time I went into labour doing exercise - with DD running(!) in regents park, with DS walking up hill on hampstead heath.)

ThisIsntOver · 03/02/2010 11:28

Can I ask about the clary sage? I have some mixed into a base massage oil which I was going to use in labour, but is it better used neat on your bump? I thought you weren't supposed to use essential oils directly onto your skin.

Good luck RLY, I'm 40 weeks today!

MumNWLondon · 03/02/2010 11:37

don't use essential oils neat on skin although ok to drop into bath - dilute with base oil and then you can use for massage.

MsPitstop · 03/02/2010 11:38

3 days over, tried sex, tried nipple stimulation, tried very spicy pizza, tried swift walks, tried jumping up and down, tried tidying out a cupboard or seven.

So tonight we are going out for a hot curry and I thought I might try oral sex - have to say seems a little unfair... curry and oral sex for him and childbirth for me! However I have a cold and the ubiquitous stuffy nose so not sure how successful this is going to be!

RLY · 03/02/2010 11:54

argh.. just had another sweep (had 3 now) and found out that his head is no longer engaged (had been for the last 5 days or so) and he has turned into my back... the poor little thing obviously can't get comfy...
3 days until the induction :-(

Poor you!

Try not to hang on in there if you see what I mean...

newmomma · 03/02/2010 12:01

Have you tried expressing with a pump, if you have one?

Or putting on a really weepy movie and having a good cry?

MsPitStop lol - I think its meant to be you that has the stimulation if you want to go into labour - not your DH!!

changer22 · 03/02/2010 12:04

Plan a (local) trip - cinema, meal out or keep talking (and worrying) about the induction/talk with consultant.

Worked for me twice! Had DD2 and DS2 at 11th hour before meeting consultant. Both 2 weeks late.

RLY · 03/02/2010 12:14

thanks newmomma, i dont need the movie for the good cry.. am sitting here in tears anyway.. the joys of hormones and extreme tiredness..
with sensible head on i know that an induction isnt a bad thing, and in 5/6 days i should have my DS in my arms BUT, i havent got a sensible head on, i've got a hormonal one! this head is just thinking about lying in a hospital ward going into labour surrounded by strangers, without my partner (if it kicks off during the night), away from my beautiful daughter... must be more positive and hope that he can sense my fears and makes an appearance before then!

Oh it's so tough at the end. Realistically, none of this stuff works. There are of course people who had sex and then went into labour but I bet there are many more that didn't have sex and still went into labour. A baby will generally come when ready, barring any unforseen circumstances. A lot of this sex, walking etc just tires you out and achieves nothing.

I'd use these last days to do lots of lovely things and accept that I may as well do nice things that I enjoyed than a load of difficult things that don't work anyway.

And you don't have to have an induction if everything is okay, you can ask to hang on a bit longer if you'd prefer and have expectant management.

ThisIsntOver · 03/02/2010 14:06

ShowOfHands is right. You can't be induced against your will. The liklihood of problems for an overdue baby only increases very slighly as the days go by. Whilst you want to take on board expert advice, it's really not going to make much difference if you ask to hang on another day or two... especially if you start to feel things happening.

newmomma · 08/02/2010 08:45

Any news RLY ??

RLY · 14/03/2010 18:55

hi, sorry for delay.. we had a little boy on the 7th.. when I say little, he was 9.14!
was induced, went really quickly..
