this is my first pregnancy, so i am a bit worried... my acid reflux has made my vomiting, sickness come back since 27 weeks! Midwife just said use gaviscon, but its not helping that much....I am worried that my lack of appetite and not eating much or keeping much down is harming my baby....

should i be worried about 'starving' my baby?

Unless you're really sick and not managing to keep anything down, I don't think it's too much of a problem. The baby is very good at leeching all it needs from you - so it's you that suffers, not it.

Can you take a multivitamin?

Hi,

I had very bad morning sickness and now (at 32 weeks) have terrible heartburn. I was advised that the baby simply takes what it needs so if there was a shortage of anything it was going to affect me rather than the baby.

My sympathies ... it's horrible. Keep drinking and eat what you can.

I suffer with this particularly in the later months. I asked my consultant if I could take ranitidine (I think thats the one!) which is a heart burn tablet - all the brand names do them and tesco does its own version.

I went from being sick 5 times a day due to the acid reflux to being able to eat things. One tablet in the morning kept it at bay ALL day. It made a huge difference and DD is absolutely fine. I will definitely do the same this time.

You need to check with a doctor though - midwife will not say yes. Doctors dont seem bothered though.

However if you would prefer not to this wont harm your baby

Sorry I meant to say its a small tablet you swallow - not chew. I couldnt bear to chew tablets as they made me sick

thanks everyone, will try to calm down...the sickness combined with the fact that everyone seems to say that I am small has made me think my baby was suffering.

will see what i can keep down today

With my second pregnancy I weighed less at 40 weeks that I did to start. My bump was tiny and measured 6 weeks behind at 39 weeks! People commented all the time.

DD was born absolutely fine, perfectly healthy and weighing 8 lb 12.5 oz. She was hiding in my bum

peppa- yes i am measuring small 2-3 weeks behind and my mother keeps saying i am not eating enough!

but when he midwife felt the baby she was lying diagonally across and not sticking out at all...good to hear another 'small' belly that had a nice healthy size baby
