Just a quick and probably obvious question but just wanted to check - do you stop taking folic acid once you are passed 12 weeks pregnant or is it best to continue with it? I am 14 weeks and still taking it but thinking maybe I don't need to?...

Afaik, it is not necessary.

Neural tube stuff is done by then.

Either really.

No harm taking all the way through. Official advice is 12 weeks before conception and 12 weeks after.

I expect it depends on what else the tablets do too. Mine are Sanatogen (in sickly pink - bah) - and they are general vitamins for health in pregnancy as well as folic acid. It certainly can't do any harm to keep taking those ones because they're labelled as being for the whole pregnancy and breastfeeding too.

There is an alleged link between asthma and excess folic acid in the 3rd trimester.

Thanks for that - my tablets are just the folic acid, no other vitamins etc. I'll stop them I think after Luckyjims' advice - thanks.
