.... how much worse were they after the birth?

And how long did they take to go afterwards?

I'm mostly referring to external or prolapsed piles - I've had these for weeks and weeks now and I'm starting to fret about how bad its going to get with all the pushing and whether its going to put a downer on the first few weeks with my new baby!

Please tell me I am being unncessarily concerned!

Mine are OK now after 3 dc. Take Fybogel and eat bran sprinkled on your cereal if they get painful. Takes a day or two but sorts them out for me!

watching with interest as I've been wondering the same! I still have piles from pushing DD1 out nearly 2 years ago - they're not painful just unsightly! I can't help worrying about how much worse they're going to look once I've pushed DD2 out too. Does anyone know if the external ones ever just go back up as it were?

I had 1 that popped out during the preganacy with DS1. Took weeks to go away. Then during the birth it came out again but quickly (even quicker than when pregnant) went away again.
This time round, its come back again but after a few weeks gone again (Prep H seems to do the trick for me) - I'm not worried about after the labour as you're far more likely to suffer long term during the pregnancy (due to constipation) than after.
Oh and do remember to tell a midwife in the hospital and they dish out tubes of pile cream willy nilly there and saves a trip to the dr's or pharmacy!

I had piles at the very end of my 1st pregnancy but it didnt bother me and the birth didnt irritate them. They went totally away afterwards.

However during my second pregnancy I found them really irritating and painful. Was really surprised at how it affected my life in small ways like walking to the park etc. For a number of weeks I was really tortured by them, however my midwife emphasised using pessaries and cream every morn, after EVERY bowel motion and EVERY night. I must say that it did help the irritation and they did shrink.

Now the scary bit! After the birth of my second baby, my bottom was unrecognisable. I felt like I had the bum of monkey! lol In actual fact it was my back passage which hurt more than my front. Had difficulty sitting and was sore getting up.

However after 2wks of using pessaries and cream everything settled down and cleared away. 6 months on I have very little bother, just the occasional swelling if I was constipated.

I really dont feel that they made mmiserable after the birth of DD or put a downer on the first few weeks! good luck

Thanks everyone for your replies

heth1980 - I had piles before getting pg and the external ones always used to go back, but for the last several weeks they havent - I hope they do eventually after the birth (but if not then will see what GP suggests)

Tras - I feel a little better having read your experience, as I am at the 'irritating & painful' stage now but seems that maybe it wont get as bad as I fear [hopeful emoticon]

Am 33 weeks now so not long to go til I find out for sure!
