Placenta has come away from the womb

I'm 8 weeks pregnant and had a missed miscarraige last Nov. Was bleeding over weekend and got a scan on Monday at the EPU. The baby is fine but the MW said my placenta had come away from the wall of the womb a bit and that's why I was bleeding. She didn't seem overly concerned about it. The more I think about it the more worried I get. Anyone heard of this before? Thanks in advance

Um no, but the placenta is attached by loads and loads of blood vessels. Its not like a lump attached by a big stalk, its more like a jelly fish. So a few of those tendrils have detached and they can reattach/regrow. I think. I read a lot about this when I had placenta praevia and needed my placenta to move!

Pregnancy is just so scary isn't it. They're not content with scaring you for all of their lives, the little piglets have to start worrying you in the womb.

I had a placenta erotion, dont know if this is the same, i had to go to hospital three times with bleeds before they found out what it was, i dont think its anything to worry about, gave birth to a healths 7lb 8oz girl with no complacations. Ask your midwife to explain it to you on your next visit, sure you and baby will be fine.

No I have not heard of this before, you need to ask the MW if you should be concerned or need to take any extra care.

But don't worry if your MW isn't.

Thanks guys. Will ask my midwife to explain it better the next time. I was so worried at the time that she would tell me I was miscarrying again that I didn't bother to get proper answers - I was just so relieved to see the heart beat! Thanks again.

Its aclled a placental abruption, never known anyone with one. I know it can be serious but obviously in your case isn't if the mw doesn't seem too concerned. Just keep an eye onthe bleeding, make sure it doesn't get too heavy, get medical advice if it does. If the abruption does get worse later on in pregnancy, it may mean the baby will be a bit early, sometimes they do a caesarean, but I don't think you need to worry at this stage.

I had this wioth ds2 at 9 weeks and 14 weeks. For me it was about 4/4cm bit iof the placenta had come away and that expalined the bleeding. I went on to have a normal problem free pregnancy and healthy baby

Apparently it never reattaches but it doesnt matter as its normally such a small bit
