1st pregnancy, only 15 weeks and feel that I look at least 25. Someone asked me the other day if I was pregnant, and I was really quite shocked, as had been in denial, and thinking that I only looked like I had eaten too many pies. Truth hurts! Husband keeps asking which is my fat and which is baby. Romantic hey? (And then he is surprised when I don't feel very up for it ;) )
Ordered maternity trousers as everything too tight, and put on about 7 lbs. Some of these may be down to the huge amounts of S&V crisps I have been craving scoffing.

How big are you all, and how much weight put on? Am I just greedy old cow?

Hiya,

It is my first pregnancy too and I am 17 weeks. I was just under 10 stone I have put on 8 lbs, my SIL who is also 17 weeks has put on 6 lbs and I think this is about average for this stage. I too have been indulging in S&V crisps ect as it really helped wsith MS and it was what I was craving. Also a couple of pounds would have gone on over Christmas from indulging whether pregnant or not!

For the last couple of weeks my jeans have been too tight but I have been in denial as most of my friends said they didn't wear maternity clothes until 20-22 weeks but yesterday put on maternity jeans and they are so comfy there is no going back! I am also quite short so I don't think there is anywhere for the bump to go but out.

I wouldn't worry about putting on 7 lbs I think it is normal and there may be some water retention too. Just eating as healthy as you can and have the odd treat too. If you can't when you are pregnant then when can you?

Right I am off to do some more maternity clothes shopping!

xx

Thanks Hippopo - you have made me feel much better to hear that you and your SIL also put on similar. You are so right about Christmas pounds too!

Can't wait for my maternity trousers and jeans to arrive. Having to not walk around with button/zip undone will be such a treat!

Happy shopping!

x

I'm 14 weeks and have been in maternity jeans or my trackies for the last 2 weeks now. You are not alone!
I feel ginormous - specially now I can't sleep on my stomach - but apparently there's no bump. I've only put on 2-3lbs since I conceived, but I was already overweight, so I dunno what that means. Oh, and I too ate a small nation's ration of S&V crisps!

I think we were all separated at birth...

Emster30 · 28/01/2010 15:59

I'm coming up for 15 weeks and I suddenly seem to have a bump. It's nice to have a proper sign of being pregnant! However I've been in mat trousers for about 3 weeks now, and last time I checked (a couple of weeks ago now) I had already put on half a stone so I feel like I've got really fat. Never mind, I'm not going to feel bad about it - now the nausea has largely passed I'm reigning in the eating to a certain extent and I'm back at the gym. I wouldn't worry - embrace the maternity trousers and enjoy!

first1 · 28/01/2010 17:24

I'm 24+3 weeks and have put on exactly a stone with a pretty neat little bump. Though when I was around 15weeks I felt huuuuuge and MW said it was just a lot of bloating rather than actual bump which is v common in first half of pregnancy

Ludlowlass · 28/01/2010 17:56

Thanks everyone - so pleased to know that I am not alone, in feeling massive, and also to hear about the bloating - my 'bump' (aka flab/sometimes baby!) does tend to both grow and retreat, so maybe a lot of it is due to bloating too - both water and wind! The joys.. !

I lost 1/2 stone from 6-10 week due to severe MS but now I am 19 week and I have put on a stone and half (stone more than I was when got pg). I am worried that I am too big, but it is all belly and breasts!

JamieJay · 28/01/2010 18:03

I'm 14 weeks and have put on 8-9bs!!! Still in normal jeans with no bump but my waist is definately disappearing.

I'm blaming it on having lost 7lbs the month before I conceived so my body is back at it's comfort zone! That and the fact my boobs have already gone up 2 cups sizes!

Wonderstuff · 28/01/2010 18:04

I am 15 weeks and have been in maternity clothes for a couple of weeks, they are so comfy. This is no. 2 and last time I put off switching to mat clothes which was silly as they are so much more comfy. I haven't weighed myself since my last pregnancy, one less thing to stress about. My bump grows during the day and shrinks at night, I think it is to do with metabolism slowing down so you get all the nutrients out of your crisps (feta cheese is my current craving, going through half a pack a day, getting quite out of control)

iggypiggy · 28/01/2010 18:06

I am 15 weeks and I just feel fat... I don't look pregnant - i just look fat

with enormous comedy tits

sexy

Ludlowlass · 28/01/2010 18:26

iggypiggy your comment made me laugh! We are so all in the same boat.

Wonderstuff - feta cheese. I didn't know we could eat that! Is it ok to?

Feta is fine - only mould ripened cheese that is off limits and that is OK if it is cooked.

I'm 15 weeks and the swelling/bloated feeling comes and goes. Yesterday out of seemingly nowhere my belt did up 4 holes tighter than it as done for a fortnight. Other days I have to undo a button on a skirt or something. I've just bought bigger jeans as the day I went out to buy maternity jeans they were all very "mumsy" and I'm just not ready to do that yet...

DesperateHousewife21 · 29/01/2010 10:01

Im coming up to 16 weeks and im in the "in-between" stage where my normal jeans dont fit but maternity jeans/trousers are just a bit too big so im living in trackie bottoms atm. Im looking forward to having a more obv bump so it doesnt just look like ive eaten too much.

pandw · 29/01/2010 16:02

I am 18 weeks and have put on about 6lb.

I also feel huge.

My mother announced that I am very "high for my dates" and a woman at work said she thinks I am having a boy because I am carrying my weight on my bottom and hips... nice! Prior to that comment I hadn't been too worried about my size but am now a bit paranoid!!

I think that people who take a while to show are paranoid about that, and us 'fatties' are paranoid about how early we are showing. Pregnancy is such an anxious time!!

echops · 29/01/2010 19:26

I'm usually a size 12 but was in maternity trousers at 11 weeks. Have felt huge all the way through. Am now 36 weeks and baby is due to be around the 10lb mark (although have been told MW's often get sizes wrong).

skihorse · 30/01/2010 07:01

pandw To be brutally honest, 6lb is not elaphantine!

However, comments from mothers never help. Mine has been "kind" enough to tell me that she didn't show until 6 months, never needed maternity wear (only wore it because she'd made it) and that she actually lost weight in the first 5 months. Makes me feel like a great big fat loser!

weehector · 09/02/2010 13:09

15 weeks and in transition between my normal jeans (top button won't go on my much loved Earnest Sewn jeans, sore belly if I force it) and maternity jeans (a wee bit too big at the moment) so good to hear other are at the same stage, particularly re the bump growing and contracting...who knew?

I've never been a fashion monkey but I'm becoming increasingly self conscious about how I dress myself - particularly as I have 2 weddings in the next 2 months and have no idea what I can wear. I just don't have a clue about how I'm going to dress this bump other than wearing jeans and a t-shirt (thankfully I can wear jeans for work & just throw on a blazer if I need to dress up) or leggings/joggers (for about the house) for the next 6 months.

So strategies are:

  1. stuff holding out on wearing mat clothes - I'm just going to wear the Gap jeans because life's miserable just now enough with the not drinking ot eating brie just now
  2. Buy a fabulous new bag with the money I've saved by not buying new spring/summer season clothes - you can never feel fat with bags or shoes!
weehector · 09/02/2010 13:18

Oh, and iggypiggy - ha, ha for comedy breasts. I'm currently wearing 30J bras...bought six months ago before I got pregnant..I'm now spilling out of them and scared that even the lovely ladies at Bravissimo will laugh at me. DH calling me Lolo Ferrari...
