Choice of hospital - Princess Alexandra ar Whipps Cross?

I went to the GP for the first time today (I'm 5 weeks pg) and had to choose my hospital!

I live in Buckhurst Hill, on the London/Essex border, so have a choice between Whipps Cross (Leytonstone) or Princess Alexandra (Harlow).

I went for Harlow becasue I have visited someone, non-maternity, in Whipps before and it seemed quite old and tired building-wise and very busy. Harlow is, I think, much newer etc, but it is further away and much more diffcult to get to for me... it was a shot in the dark really!

Anyone had any experience of either?

Hi,

I had my DS at Princess Alexandra and they were fab, also dont know if you`ve seen the news of late, Whipps cross has been shut due to the winter sickness bug.

HTH xx

HI there

I will be having my baby in Princess Alexandra in June and everyone here who have had their babies there have said very positive things to me. I think they have just revamped the maternity ward actually and I have been happy with them so far re midwives, scans etc. I used to live in Walthamstow and went to Whipps Cross few times, but not maternity ward and wasn't very impressed. Difficult choice though because of the distance, hope you manage to decide!x

My experience of Whipps is that it's run down and tatty but the staff are great and they seem very good with appointments etc. Every person I've dealt with there has been caring adn helpful. I wasn't sure at first too deciding between the two but I chose Whipps because everyone said the staff are great. Also the home from mhome birth unit itself is quite new.
