37 wks and may need an op this week for a clotted haemmarrhoid

Just wondering if anyone else has had this done in late pg. I am worried about the affect of the general on the baby (have been told if they have to operate then it has to be a general)
I am hoping that they are going to be able to use hot and cold therapy. I saw a surgeon this morning but he wants another surgeon to have alook, on thursday and the desicion wiull be made then. I am also on tablets at the moment for HBP.

Anyone else had anything like this at this stage, what are the chances of the baby reacting to the anesthetic.. Advice welcome please..
BTW 4th baby scan today doc said 60%engaged..

You are 37 weeks - surely they should deliver the baby right now (I'm sorry I don't know what a clotted haemmarrhoid is) - I was ill during pregnancy and both my DCs were delivered at 37 weeks. The risk of delivering your baby at this stage is extremely small - I personally would definately request this.

Oh bless, you poor thing. No experience myself of an op while pg though. But am currently not pg and somehow have piles (think caused by IBS and stress) which is making me feel wretched. Got some suppositories for it yesterday which had better work!

Thank you for your responses. I will be asking them questions re delivery etc once they have 100% decided whether to operate or what.. (my first was a cs at 36weeks)
Woody clotted haemmarrhoid is a pile that has clotted / thrombosed.

TBH I am shitting myself.. I really feel like crying but trying not too, esp infront of my 13yr DD I do think once she has gone to bed I may well just have to have a cry. I know I shouldnt worry until I know for defo but I cant help it.. I have only been out of hospital a week after spending a week in for HBP.. The last thing I want is for that to go high again the meds are so far doing a good job at keeping it down. I am just glad that the little man is quite happy inside and nothing seems to be affecting him, bless him.

meglet ment to say hope they work for you.. unfortunatley because it has clotted it means that the response to meds isnt as good.. I really expected the doc this morning to politley tell me i was being a whimp.. not OH 3+1 I think you need surgery you ,must be in a lot of pain!!!

really feel for you...sounds horrible... surely with the combination of HBP and this issue better for you to have the baby ASAP?

i am being plagued this pregnancy with piles have history of IBS... had a anal fissure just before i got pregnant, and recurrant eczema in anal area.... i am going mad with it, tolerable for now with creams (although vicious circle as they make eczema flare up, then need steriods to calm that down).

now 28 weeks, will get referral after i give birth to discuss better solutions that the cream/suppositories that don't really work (or work very temporarily).

can you ask for them to general and take baby out first via CS? then operate on pile?

Everyday the pile seems to be getting better.. but it is no smaller, whether or not I am just becoming more tolerant to the pain as getting used to it i dont know. I will discuss with the surgeon tommorrow, once I have seen him.. but I have always been under the impression that a general isnt that good for the baby..
Since I have been on the meds for the HBP his traces have all been really calm.. but the meds I am on do cross the placenta so this is probably why.

TBH I really cant see why they cant use a spinal block for the pile.
I really do not want them to deliver this baby whilst i am under.. unless obviously they rea;lly have too..

I am a bit calmer about it today, last night I kept snapping at the children and I feel awful about it now.. bless them.. My 13year old DD understands but my boys are only 5years and 2 years old.. so they dont bless them.. lots of cuddles today..

I am so sorry you are having to deal with all this.

I too would have thought it better to deliver the baby now, especially with your high blood pressure issues rather than risk having a general anaesthetic whilst still pregnant.

Can you ask them to lay out the options and what the risks and benefits are?

Or ask why you can't just wait to have the pile seen to after the birth?

They need to be clearer about your options because this has obviously (and naturally) caused you a lot of stress. Hospital doctors can be really crap at explaining their reasons and what they plan to do. I'm still not sure if I am going to be induced early because of my high blood pressure or not.

Haven't had this particular problem, but did have a general anaesthetic when 31 weeks pg with DD2 (appendicitis). So she had a GA, morphine, shedloads of antibiotics and other painkillers while still in utero. She was born at 40+1, no problems and will be 4 a week on Monday

DH and I are going to do a list of questions to take with us. If the surgeons English isnt up to answering them all (DH In the Army so we are in Germany) then i will get a liason officer to come up and help us discuss the options.
I am going to take my hospital bag with everything for the baby just incase.
TBH I dont think they want me bearing down with the pile incase it bursts.. SO many questions, and senarios..

Thank you helen that is very useful, to know.
But from what I can gather from what they were saying yesterday.. the op would be to cut the pile at the top and get rid of the blood clott which has formed. Will defo ask more tommorrow re it all.
