red raw and sore bump... what to do

I'm 36 weeks and must be having a mamouth growth spurt. The bump has been very red, sore and itchy several times when I have had spurts before but this is driving me mad. My skin is so taught that it's red and inflamed, under my boobs is nearly rubbed raw (have had to remove bra) and all the skin on my bump is red, blothcy and hot. Normal creams (ie a maternity one and my normal moisturiser) make not a jot of difference, but I can't think what the hell else might.....any suggestions?

I have not tried this personally so don't blame me if it does not work....

My friend who had twins used to rub olive oil in her bump before bed then wrap clingfilm around herself to keep the moisture in. She swore it worked!

mmme sounds messy, maybe very close to trying this though...... it's almost like a heat rash or exzema....

Phone the midwife/hospital ward. Itchy skin can be soemthing really bad, can't remember what it is called (unlikely - but worth checking out).

something to do with liver function the bad thing you are thinking of PotPourri - I cant remember its name either and I was enquiring about it the other day! - Preggo brain.

hettie - how are you now? Did you talk to the midwife - hope it's nothing serious...

Sounds similar to something I had a few weeks ago, and found something called PUPPP via mumsnet/google which sounded like it was it. Very itchy bump with rash that wasn't soothed by anything (although bath helped). I did get it checked out there and had blood test for liver function etc, so think you should mention it to midwife. I was given some aqueous cream with menthol in it that was meant to sooth, not sure it really worked. The minute I touched my bump just made me want to itch.
