DH announced after my last scan that he clearly saw a penis and testicles!!!

I am 24 weeks pregnant with DC3, we already have two boys aged 10 and 2 and whilst I am happy for either (we had a bit of a scare with this one,so friends&family "ooh bet u want a girl comments"fall a bit flat!)

I can't help but feel a bit cheated that he now has spoilt the surprise that we had BOTH decided we wanted!

So, what I wondered was, has anyone THOUGHT they saw boys bits and it turned out to be a girl?

Even though I am trying not to, I keep finding myself refering to my bump as he!

Could it have been other bits (cord?)he has mistaken for boys bits or has he really just spoilt one of life's genuine surprises????

Unless your dh is a sonographer or doctor/nurse who uses u/s a LOT then there is a at least a 50% chance he's wrong. My dh works with radiological technology a lot and he had no idea!

Funny you say that, I asked him when we got home at what point did he qualify as a Sonographer!

And I have always struggled to make out anything even when its been pointed out lol!

Thanks for your reply northernlurker x

My dad cheerfully announced that he had a son. This was after my big sister was born.

ShowOfHands · 23/01/2010 16:29

Friends of mine didn't want to know but came out of their scan laughing that they had seen a penis and testicles and it was impossible to miss.

Their dd is just lovely.

It seems to me that you were hoping for a girl and that is what you are more cross about as if he had said he saw girls bits you wouldn't have been quite so cross. Sorry if wrong, but it is just how I see it.

PrettyCandles · 23/01/2010 16:34

We also had agreed not to find out. At dc2's scan we both thought we had very clearly seen boys' bits, but, because we had agreed not to find out, we didn't talk about it to each other - just in case the other hadn't seen!

I was so convinced that we were having another boy, that when dc2 was born I thought I was overhearing someone else's birth when dh anounced "It's a girl!".

thats the funniest thing I have heard in ages!

Hi fab, you could not be more wrong , as I mentioned a healthy baby is my only wish, it was that we had agreed despite possible complications that we wanted a surprise, either way!

Thankfully all appears well after further scans, so we had plenty of opportunity to find out and it was on the last one he made his declaration!

I agree he should have kept it to himself PrettyGirl, although it looks like the surpise is still intact thanks everyone!

Happy to be wrong.

MrsMattie · 23/01/2010 16:55

Thought I saw boy bits and had a girl.

MummyTumble · 23/01/2010 17:45

I saw boys bits.....and it was DS - very obvious in our case.

This time i don't look in case we get flashed again!

bounty007 · 23/01/2010 17:58

We had a private scan at 18 weeks and told it was defo a boy, then at 20 week NHS scan told it was 100% a girl .... 3 or less weeks to go til due date, but bit of a PITA as I like to be organised with names, colours etc!

oldenglishspangles · 23/01/2010 18:02

The cord can sometimes be mistakenly make people think they are having boys according to our sonographer.

Jacksmama · 23/01/2010 18:08

In girls, the labia and clitoris are huge when they're developing and can frequently be mistaken for testicles even by experienced sonographers.

And due to maternal hormones, sometimes baby girls are born with very swollen labia, so they almost look like testicles. There was a post on the Funniest Bits of Childbirth thread (in Classics) where the mum was completely out of it after the birth and her DD had to whisked away, and apparently, although she was told "IT'S A GIRL!!", when they zoomed the baby past her, she thought, "looks like a pair of balls to me but you're the doctor". ROFL .

How has it spoilt the surprise? You still don't know what it will be
