I was wondering if anybody had any advice. At 8 weeks I had a small bleed & was sent for a scan which was told was fine & saw littluns heartbeat etc. I've had a little spotting since but nothing much. I'm now 10 weeks & things were okay until this morning (Friday) when I had more bleeding plus passed a tiny clot. I phoned the hospital for advice (& hoping they'd get me in for another scan!) & was told to see how things go over the wknd because the bleeding had stopped & id felt no pain just some light aching.
I was wondering if you're entitled to request a scan after a bleed? Also I've just been told to 'rest'. Does that me bedrest & stay off work next week or just not doing anything strenuous?!
I've tried making an appointment with my doctor to ask him all the questions but he's not available until Tuesday. This is my first pregnancy & I'm so scared & frustrated not knowing what's going on or how often I should be contacting the doctors or if I am expected to just wait things out. I'd really appreciate anyone's thoughts / experiences. Thanks

i dpn't think you're "entitled" to a scan, but i'd be surprised if they refused you one if you requested it, after a bleed.

it IS very common to get bleeding in early pregnancy though, so i wouldn't be overly worried

i would just take it easy, do as little as possible.

meant to say, I've had bleeding with all 3 of my pregnancies ad have 3 healthy babies

Our hospital wouldn't scan me a second time when I was bleeding because they said they don't like to scan too much at the early stages. I bled until 14 weeks then stopped. DD born last sept, all fine. Hope you're OK.

and I took rest to mean bedrest and stayed flat out for a week! Very nice it was too.

I phoned the hospital back today & eventually managed to get booked in for a scan on Tuesday. Still going to be a few days of worry but much better than waiting 3 and a half weeks until my dating scan!
Thank you for all your messages, fingers crossed x

Had scan this morning & after lots of waiting & nerves was thankfully told that baby is fine, is growing normally & still has a strong heatbeat.
The bleed was something to do with the placenta implanting & they identified a tiny scab which they expect will cause some light bleeding or clot in the next week or two. So at least i know everythings fine & not to worry. Phew!

That sounds like a small subchorionic heamatoma. I had one and bled quite a bit, but as long as they are little they are not anything to worry about.

Thank you StrawberrySam that's very sweet of you. Made it to 12 weeks now plus I still have original '1st' scan booked for just over a weeks time so that will help to further put my mind at rest. Then hopefully I can just enjoy being pregnant!

This thread is really helpful. I am currently going through the same thing (also started on a Friday!) and cant see my doc till Monday. Hes not particularly helpful, and I have my dating scan in a week n a half, but Im def asking for an earlier one! Every twinge or ache I get I want to cry thinking something is wrong. the out of hours GP also told me that I should see how it goes over the weekend. I think that is the worst advice to gie a first time mum to be. I still came to work today, but I'm not doing anything more than sitting on a chair and pressing a button when someone wants in, and using the time to read helpful threads!

Hi Buterfly58,
Havent been on here for a while & just read your comment. I hope everything went well for you. I think you do have to be firm sometimes, you know if you need a scan to put your mind at rest after a scare.
After the second bleed that i had i bought a fetal doppler so that i can hear the baby's heartbeat at home whenever i need a bit of extra reassurance & i would definately recommend getting one if you're anxious a lot. It cost just over £70 but has been more than worth it to give me extra peace of mind. Plus I figured I could try selling it on ebay or something afterwards!
Im 17 weeks now & looking forward to finding out the sex next month! Cant help worrying a bit from time to time still but I am managing to enjoy being a mum-to-be now
I really hope you had some good news and that all is going well with you x
