Nursing clothes

Has anyone bought anything to wear post-baby? I haven't but I keep seeing nursing tops and discreet feeding wrap dresses. Are they realy necessary? Can anyone who's done this before tell me how to get dressed!

After the birth I wore maternity clothes still for a while whilst my uterus got back to normal.

Then I only wore nursing clothes at night, through the day I wore tops I could easily manouvre to get my booby and for ds, if I wore something a little restricting - I wrapped a pram sheet around us so nothing was on show.

The nursing day clothes aren't essential - but then again. Most things aren't - they're just convenient sometimes.

I bought one breastfeeding top in a sale and it is still in its wrapper! (DD is now 15 months..) No need to buy special tops etc in my opinion.

I did buy a few vest tops in a larger size to wear under my normal clothes, so that if I was pulling my top up to feed I could pull the neck of the vest down and keep warm whilst also not exposing my post-baby belly to the world! Very handy in the cold weather and I'm still doing it as the belly is now actually bigger than it was .

I have to say that now I am back it work, it is really nice to be able to wear dresses again!

I bought a couple of breastfeeding tops and did find them useful while I was building up my confidence feeding in public. A vest under a normal top would do the same job really though.

Agree with Jenny, vest tops that can be pulled down rather than hoisting all tops up is the top tip. My post preg tum (or should I say post preg rolls)comes as no pretty sight...

I've made a Hooter-hider, a kind of apron thing that allows you to see baby but be covered up. You can buy them here or make one!

Hoping it will allow public breastfeeding with no accidental nipple viewing!

Lots of pretty front-fastening blouses and shirts in the shops at the moment.

Wrap dresses are very kind to the maternal figure as well as being very practical for bf. - just got one in the Zara sale. Size 10, but fits me fine at almost 36 weeks pg, so should be a goodie for post birth and nursing IMO.

Agree with previous posters - doubt you'll need to get anything specifically designed for nursing (apart from the bras!)

a friend bought a load of primark vests and cut nipple holes in them, so she could wear them under another top and not expose anything more than the essential. I thought that was ingenious, and really funny. I didn't bother myself as I didn't bother breast feeding past 3 months, but should I do longer this time I might just do myself some peek-a-boo nip exposers :-)

Erm IC you're wearing normal size 10 at 36 weeks?! That's not ALLOWED!

I wear a nursering bra, then a vest top, then a normal t-shirt or long sleeve top, and then a cardi or shirt on the top. To feed I unbutton cardi or shirt, lift up the t-shirt/top and put the vest top down, this means that only my nipple is exposed and most of the time DS is on that. It means I've been able to continue to wear my normal tops - the only thing it's tricky for is dresses!

If it makes you feel better, I had to buy XL size sweat pants!!
