UTI's, Morning Sickness and Feeling Grotty?

Would a UTI make me feel absolutely dreadful?

I am 9+4 pregant with DC4 and feel really dreadful, but I hate to make a fuss. I am unable to do pretty much anything due to sickness though and I feel a bit useless and silly.

Yesterday I had to stop twice on a 15 minute drive to the shops to be sick and then had to grab the conveyor belt at the checkout to stop myself falling over. I felt such an idiot! I feel dizzy/spaced out a lot of the time and can't concentrate on anything. I am also boiling hot one minute, then freezing cold and shivering the next.

Yesterday I thought I was getting dehydrated, so rang my GP who said to come right down. He did a urine test and said I am not dehydrated, but he thinks I have a urine infection and has sent a urine sample to the lab.

Would a urine infection make me feel generally unwell?

Also, he has prescirbed me cyclizine for the sickness, as he said it is possible I'll become dehydrated if I keep being sick as I am, but I am reluctant to take it as although he said it was safe, it seems there is no conclusive evidence to prove this. Will/should I be Ok if I just keep sipping water all day?

Hi Midori
Really sorry to hear you are feeling so awful.
To answer your question, yes a UTI can and often will makew you feel terrible, especially in pregnancy as you are probably a bit immune suppressed. It sounds like you are in a vicious cycle of feeling/being sick probably not keeping well hydrated and hence any UTI will get worse.
It is extremely important to keep well hydrated so (personally) I would accept the GP's advice and take the cyclizine. The results of the Urine test will be back in another day or two and if as you suspect there is an infection (if a dipstick showed this then it is more than likely)then at least the GP can give you the correct antibiotics.

With regards the dizziness, i am 8 wks and also suffering with this, it is really debilitating so I have a lot of symparthy! And as it doesnt seem to be acommon pregnancy symptom (at least not this early on)people think it cant be due to the pregnancy!
