I'm not THAT pregnant yet...why am I so huge?

I'm about 13 weeks now with my second pregnancy, and this time last time I just looked like I'd been munching on one too many cakes here and there. This time, I have a noticeable bump, and when I feel it, it's not all flab (though I still do have an amount of podge) because it's firmer than fat. (Plus, my DS is a handful enough that I weighed a good few kilos less when I concieved this time around, so it's not that I've been putting on weight anyway.)

But it's way too high up to actually be the baby at this point, so what's going on? I can already feel the muscles parting round my abdomen, so is it just a result of my body already being knackered from last time? My scan showed one healthy baby, at normal size for the number of weeks I am, but honestly, I'm so big I was worried they'd find two!

I'll admit I'm probably overreacting, but I've also had huge backache as well, which didn't appear until my dear DS had the time of his life fidgeting from six months to delivery last time. That pregnancy was unplanned, so I was rather in shock until about halfway through, hence my memories being a little vague. Basically, I just want to make sure nothing's wrong with me, and if anyone knows, I'm awfully nosey about what shunts to where and at what point, organ-wise.

I'm not sure medical facts and organs wise, but with my 3rd DC we decided to wait until after the 12 week scan to tell people. This was due at the end jan. BUT when I went back to playgroup after Christmas they all knew I was pregnant from the rather large (for 9 weeks)bump in my jumper. Everyone was convinced it was twins, but it wasn't. I think your tummy just "gives in" quicker once you have already had one baby.

With DS1 I didn't look pregnant till about 7 months, I remember one day the MW asking if a trainee could feel DS1 as he was breech. She said I had very tight muscles and it was easier to feel the baby.

with DS2 (my 4th) I started showing at 8 weeks!!!!

I'm 21 weeks into my 3rd pregnancy and look around 7 month pregnant. I think I actually 'looked pregnant' from the moment I had conceived ...

I'm usually fairly slim btw.

This is my first, I'm 11 weeks and I already feel enormous, much more rounded and "bump" like than I would've ever expected to be at this stage, or indeed another good few weeks. All firm, no flab - I have my scan on Monday and I am honesty starting to wonder if they are going to find two babies!!!

Size definately not in my head as even my neighbours commented a few days ago on my definate bump shape!

Hoping I'm just being pregnant like my Mum who insists that she was showing by the end of her first trimester on all her pregnancies including her first (me!!)

I'm glad someone else apart from my mum out there is saying the same about showing by 12 weeks on 1st baby. I haven't put on any weight yet, lost half a stone with sickness so far, I've just gotten bigger and rounded out!... maybe we both have rubbish stomach muscles helen!

peppapighastakenovermylife · 15/01/2010 08:42

My theory is that the baby is growing down in your pelvis and pushing everything else up - my lovely post 2 DC tummy has kind of got higher if that makes sense! Hoping the actual baby belly will catch it up soon...

Dear Tott - Dont worry I think lots of us are in the same boat - I always showed quite early with last 2 but this time I am 14 weeks and look enormous already.
I think its just my poor old knackered body falling apart, no muscle tone etc. Likewise with backache, all pregnancy symptoms seem to come on earlier.

What really makes me laugh is if I pick up one of my old pregnancy books and it says something like ' You begin to notice a slightly fuller tummy by this stage...' !!!Ha
