Am 39 weeks today with our first baby and this afternoon I've just been sat on the sofa and not doing anything apart from watching crap telly - so may be over thinking this - BUT I've been feeling quite damp in the knicker area and like there might be something trickling out of me....

so am wondering if my waters are starting to seep or if my pelvic floor has finally given in and i'm not at the point where I'm wetting my self a little bit (eeeeeeewwwww!)

Been wearing tena since about 15 weeks have had a tendancy to have a bit of wee come out if i sneeze or cough a lot since back then so the pads just made me feel a bit safer!

Bit concerned that I might not be able to tell the difference between wee and waters........ what should I do....???

xx

My mum leaked my waters for 3 days without realising.
Just to be on the safe side, if there is even a slight chance you are leaking, I'd pop over to your maternity unit and get checked over.

smell it. if it's wee you'll know!
could just be increased discharge though, i got that when pregnant

llareggub · 13/01/2010 18:00

Pop a pad on and give your midwife call.

Good luck!

I'd agree with thisisyesterday - mine broke (but no labour) and I saw the midwife at the hospital and he (yes, he - the only chap I came across who was a midwife) got me to sit on a pad, he had a trainee with him and explained what he was doing - and then sniffed it - amniotic liquid has little or no odour.

IWillNotNeverEatATomato · 13/01/2010 18:05

When my waters broke (both times) it was like I was totally incontinent as there was this huge gush of liquid which I couldn't stop no matter how hard I tried to pull in my useless pelvic floor muscles.

and then there would be another great gush and another etc etc.

however I believe that some people can have very varied amounts of liquid which comes out, I just tend towards the bigger extreme so never doubted what was happening.

it should be clear and not smell like wee or normal vaginal secretions, I can't really describe what it does smell like, but it is different to anything else.

If in doubt phone the hospital

mama2moo · 13/01/2010 19:00

Agree, smell it! If its your waters it will be very very sweet. With dd mine started leaking and I thought I had wet myself until I smelt it.

Good luck

mustbemadno3 · 13/01/2010 22:21

That happened to me with dc1. I leaked all through the night I thought I was just weeing a little. But got checked out next day anyway. They said I was fine and was too early anyway. And then 48 hours later I had him!
So I would say sounds like abit of a leak. My waters never fully broke so I had them broken for me when I finally went into hospital.
Good luck x

im on LO3 and i have never had this so dont really know apart from smell also i have been on the lookout for my show which i did have with lo x2 - Good luck!

abbierhodes · 14/01/2010 00:11

Erm...I used my finger to check where the liquid was coming from...but mine was a trickle rather than a 'seep'.

Thingiebob · 14/01/2010 00:45

Hi
I had this problem for the last few weeks and am due tomorrow. I ended up going to the labour ward to see the midwife. She was great and checked me over for infection and so on. She said it could possibly be a tiny hindwater leak but most likely an increase in mucous discharge where my body is getting ready for labour. As there was no infection and my forewaters are still intact I was sent home.

It is worth checking it out.

MrsMc82 · 14/01/2010 14:56

Thanks ladies....

after much sniffing (eeeewww) consenus is that its wee (more eeeewwww).....

Nothing else happened over night and haven't had any twinges or anything else suggesting that labout may be imminent so decided not to call midwife or labour ward as would much rather leave it till I know somethings happening for sure than go to hospital and get sent home... think i'm actually in denial about the fact that I WILL actually have to go into labour sooner or later and thjis baby is going to be here very soon... ... that is despite having everything "stuff wise" ready for him to arrive for about 2 months now!!!

Anyway thanks for your advsie ladies - much appreciated as always xxxxxxxxxxx
